I have heard that first pregnancies tend to go longer than 40 weeks. Being "late" isn't unusual. My little guy was punctual though and was born on his due date. I went into labor on January 28 and labored through the 29th before having a c-section late in the evening. My LO was born 9lbs 10oz and they were only going to let me go one week past my due date due to size. I remember crying when the office called me to schedule my induction.
As for not wanting to go past 40 weeks, well, I can honestly say that I wasn't really all that uncomfortable and was willing to go longer. I actually went to the mall and went shopping with my sister-in-law the day I went into labor. I worked up until 39 weeks and then went on Mat Leave only so I wouldn't go into labor at work (I was worried my water would break at work!--I know, I'm weird like that).
And as far as birthdays, I really don't care which day this LO is born. There are no family birthdays, anniversaries, or other special days in February or March so they are all fair game.
I personally am not a fan of anyone sharing birthdays just because it is never just "their day" if you know what I mean. My cousins (brothers) share the exact same birthday 4 years apart and growing up the parents were always having to sacrifice one of the birthday parties for the other. I know it is different when one is an adult, but I guess you would have to be ok knowing that you will always take a backseat to your child on that day.
I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run, a healthy baby born any day of the year is a blessing and that is always a great reason to celebrate. Congrats to all the March moms, regardless of when we deliver!
