Starting to stress

I haven't really thought about the logistics of what happens if I go into labour with this baby. Ideally, I'd love to go into labour in the middle of the night because life would be much easier (i.e. my dad would come and stay with #1 and my mom would be in the hospital room with DH and I). I know the ideal situation rarely happens.

I'm worried about what happens in the middle of day when everyone is at work. DH thinks we can have #1 in the room with us (um..no thanks!).

What "system" did you have set up or do you have set up for when you go into labour?

Re: Starting to stress

  • Our worry was the opposite. We were afraid of having to go in during the middle of the night because we would have to wake the kids up to bring them to the in-laws. Our plan was for DH's parents to have the kids at night and on the weekends, and his grandma would watch the kids during the day on the weekdays while DH's parents were at work.

In the end, I went into labor on a Wed. morning. Because of complications we had to head in immediately. Thankfully DH's grandma lives a minute from the hospital, so we called her and told her we were dropping the kids off in 15 minutes. We handed them to her and headed on to the hospital. We also knew that in an emergency we could bring the kids to DH's parent's work or we had a few friends volunteer to take the kids if we couldn't get a hold of family.

  • I had a scheduled c/s with #2 so I didn't worry about this but I may try for a VBAC with #3 so we're talking about this right now too. We don't have any family in town, so I may have to take a taxi to the hospital alone in the middle of the night if I go into labor when our nanny isn't with our kids. We have a couple friends and a babysitter on standby to call in case I go into labor but who knows if we'll actually be able to a get a hold of one. I'm just crossing my fingers that it will work out and reminding myself that a lot of people give birth in worse situations/circumstances than I'll end up. Maybe you can ask a few friends to each be available to help out for specific days on rotation, so you feel like you have a little more coverage than you feel like you have now? Good luck!
