Completely Random

Did anyone used to watch Mad About You? I was just thinking about CIO, and I remembered this episode of Mad About You, after they had the baby, and they did CIO as a method of teaching the baby that parents are not always there for you. They didn't do it because they wanted her to STTN, they wanted her to learn "emotional independence."

I find that really interesting.

  • I did watch it but don't remember any specifics.

People do use that line. Like someone that can't quite control her limbs yet needs to just get over herself and be independent. It's very odd.

  • I remember that episode! And as they sat outside baby's room while he/she cried, they kept wanting to go in... until finally the crying stopped and then they were upset that they'd just taught their baby that they wouldn't always be there for him/her. I must not have seen the whole episode, because I didn't realize that was their original goal. A case of "be careful what you wish for," I guess.

And my MIL, who has gently suggested CIO once or twice for our terrible sleeper but is super careful not to step on our toes as parents, also told me about the Reba episode mentioned by PP, which I appreciated. :)
