Adoption

Annoyed at a comment

So my husband just read me a text from one of his co-workers.  We are currently awaiting ICPC and are so blessed to have our little one in our arms.  We are so in love with him, he is perfect.  So the text read: "good luck picking your kid, I imagine it's a little harder than picking a puppy".  I am so angry at the ignorance and disrespect from that guy.  Just needed to vent.

  • Wow..... That is ridiculous....Clearly he has NO idea what you have been through to this point. You should be annoyed.

  • Wow, that IS ignorant! You rant at him allllll you want tonight. I tell people off over and over again, so I can get the feelings out and focus on where to go after that.

  • Wow, what did your husband say back to him???

  • I'm sorry that he said that.

Not to justify what he said, but he is either a total douchecanoe or he is one of those awkward/immature type of guys.

  • It goes to show that people sometimes do not think before they speak, in this case text.  He is no one important and I don't know him, so my hubby will try to educate him when he sees him again.  I thought I had heard some insensitive comments before, but I think this one definitely makes the top of the list.  Thanks for letting me vent.
  • It sounds like a lame attempt at a joke from someone who doesn't understand adoption. Given the relationship, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I completely agree.  It is staggering though what people think is appropriate to say Indifferent

  • I agree with the statement above. It sounds like he was trying to be funny. When I read it, I laughed out loud a little. I'm an adoptee, and my brother and I regularly joke about how our parents got to "pick" us, and other people's parents just got "stuck" with them. I'd let it go.
