Girl name debate

My husband and I have already decided on a boys name but not a girls name, so of course I think its now a girl. He wants to name the baby Dallis (was actually Dallas before but I said no to that spelling so we found this spelling). He was raised in Texas (live in colorado now) and is a very southern guy.

 I am not sure of the name. I like it but when I brought it up to my family they just told me how stupid it sounded so I don't know if that clouded my judgement of the name itself.  I would like some honest opinions that aren't family relatives. Thanks so much!

It's not my favorite but if you like it who cares what others think. My family hated Ryann for a girl but now they couldn't imagine her as anything else! Not many people are fond of our top choice for a girl (Devin) but we love it! My mom said she didn't like it for a girl and I reminded her that she said the same thing about Ryann and how she always says that she is indeed such a Ryann!

I really hate Dallas, especially on a girl. Even more so if you're going to spell Dallas wrong. I agree with your family, the name sounds stupid and it makes you look like you can't spell.

I agree with PP that if you are going to name it after Dallas, don't change the spelling of it. I really don't like the spelling Dallis.  Sorry!!

Eh, I'm going to be on the side of your family on this one.  Its one thing to name her Dallas, but another for the bad spelling.  It just goes from bad to worse.  I'm sorry.

Slightly off topic but is Ryann supposed to be pronounced like Ryan?  Everytime I see this name I think Ry-ann.  I've just always wondered.

I honestly don't like Dallis.  I don't like Dallas either but I prefer the spelling. 

ETA: I've only met one Dallas and it was a girl.

Dallas is a boy's name. Period. Also, please don't spell it incorrectly.

Jumping in... My daughters name is also Ryann, and we pronounce it Ryan.   Doesn't mean someone else might not pronounce it Ry-ann.

One of my co-workers named his daughter Dallas because he is a huge Cowboy's fan.

I don't like it at all. It doesn't seem to "fit" a girl IMO. I'd look for something else, and maybe compromise and put it as her middle name.

I do like Dallas better than Dallis though. That seems super made-up

The spelling does not improve it - it only makes it worse IMO. I say find another time! There are so many sweet southern names for girls.

How does spelling it Dallis make it better?  I'm not a fan of the name, but changing the spelling from something familiar to everyone to something you "found" that is much more obscure changes the name from NMS to not anyone's style.

Oh boy, I just saw Magic Mike and the lead stripper's name played by Matthew McConaughey was Dallas. I do not like the name at all, esp for a girl. But if you insist then please spell it correctly Dallas not Dallis.

I really hate it, especially spelled incorrectly but hate it either way.  Sorry.  What about Austin?

If you use it, please spell it Dallas. Dallis will be constantly misspelled, and to me is less visually appealing.
