Ticker warning, bother?

I saw the warning on the last post and I was just curious. Do people on this board get bothered by a ticker with a pregnancy?

I never really thought about it. Families are built in all different ways.

Re: Ticker warning, bother?

  • I used to be bothered by things like that, but not anymore.  Ever since I made the switch to adoption I am not so sensitive about it.  I feel more at peace now that I know I have a better chance of building my family through adoption than I ever did TTC.

I also know that there are women in a variety of different places on this particular board.  When I come to this board I expect to see pictures and tickers and things like that, so it doesn't take me by surprise when I see them.  I don't think a ticker or siggy warning would make much sense here.  But that's just my opinion.

  • Doesn't bother me at all.  I actually find it more annoying when people give a ticker warning. In general, I hate it when people walk on eggshells with me, so that's just my personality.

  • I never really understood the need for it. Even when we were going through everything with IF, the tickers still didn't bother me much. I get the sense that it wouldn't really be necessary on this board because most people are in a different place than those on the IF boards, but I don't want to speak for everyone.

  • No. Even on the IF boards, it never bothered me

ETA: I barely notice anything below the post anyway, unless it's huge or cluttered. And I agree with pp that it's often more annoying to have a ticker warning.

ETA #2 ;) It seems that those who do the ticker warnings don't even bother to lurk on a board to even find out if it would be an issue. I think that's what bothers me more.

  • Does not bother me at all.  Some folks on the IF boards really object, but I was never opposed.  It's life . . . there are pregnant women everywhere!  ;-)

  • I think people are just trying to err on the side of caution. I know that is why I put clarification on my post from yesterday... Just in case, you know?

Me too. I find it insulting to warn me even though that's the opposite of the intent. I'm new on this particular board but I am 3T and it doesn't bother me at all. I'm glad to see everyone here falls into that too.

Same here. It's a PREGNANCY and BABY website! haha

I also find it a smidge insulting- like "I know you're going to fall to pieces crying when you see my precious baby/ticker, so I'm going to warn you..." I like to think I've got it a little more together than that! haha

  • The thing that bothers me the most is when people treat me differently because I pregnancy is not/will not be a part of my life. I am a very happy, content, and well rounded person and carrying a pregnancy does not make me more of a woman/person. I want to hear stories about your children, attend Christenings, and receive birth announcements. I had a close friend not tell me she was pregnant until she was in her last trimester because she didn't want to "hurt" me.  It was 10x more hurtful when I found out and realized that everyone else knew and my husband and I were kept in the dark.
  • Tickers have never bothered me personally, even when I was on the Miscarriage/Loss board and the TTC After Loss board.  That being said I know there are a lot of people online and in real life that have serious aversions to seeing things like that.  I wouldn't think you would need a ticker warning on this board though, as PPs said we are all at such different stages.

  • I think it has to do w other boards...they are downright mean about it...ive lost four pregnancies and went to TTC after loss and miscarriage link and left bc I was so upset by the rudeness and lack of sensitivity there....so just beware if they moved from another board thats prob why they are doing it
After three miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy we are currently pursuing adoption. " Born not from our flesh, but born in our heart. You were longed for and wanted and loved from the start."
