She dilated to 12 cm?! I have never heard of this before? Of course, I don't go around asking women, "Oh hey, did you go past 10 cm or did you just stay right there?"
I'm thinking that since 10 cm = fully dilated, they just stop stick their hands up there once you reach 10. That's not to say that it's impossible to go past 10, that's just when they stop measuring
No, it is not. Did you know that you can dilate past 10 cm? What?! Now what are we all supposed to do? That sounds horrific! It IS horrific, right?
Not really. Not any more so than dilating to 10 is. I dilated well beyond 10 cm with my last birth, where my baby?s head measured at a whooping 14.75 inches. That?s right, that?s 38 cm (circumference) of head coming through me, which means I would have had to have dilated to 11+ cm (diameter). And guess what, I lived. And guess what, too?.it didn?t hurt any more than my other births where I dilated just to a 10. So, just because you are 10 cm doesn?t necessarily mean you are ready to push.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
People are dumb. The other day I had a gf of a cousin of mine tell me she was 6wks over due with her first. At first I thought i misheard her, but then she repeated it 2 more times. *eye roll*
I'm just annoyed at the title of the post. '3 natural births'. Maybe it's just my opinion, but she didn't have natural births, she had vaginal births. The epidural takes away from the natural part... I would never say I had a 'natural burth' b/c I had an epidural.

Chemical Pregnancy
LOL! Well hey, I accomplished SOMETHING today then.
Yeah, that's not a thing.
10cm = fully dilated. Like a pp said, no one's sticking a ruler in there

This Cluttered Life
I am a nurse and the way I understood it was that after 10cm, the cervix is just fully open, as in no lip or no way to dilate further.
