How do you keep LO cool in car seat?

We just installed the new convertible car seat and although it seems to be very comfy/plush I think the material of it and the fact that she has all the extra cushion now may be causing her to be hot. I know eventually when it's safe for her to be forward facing it won't be an issue because she'll have the air conditioning blowing in her direction but right now the air just blows onto the back of her seat-and of course the hot weather is only temporary too. While we were out this morning I just cranked up the air conditioner as high as I could to try and keep the whole car cool but after a few minutes I was freezing LOL! Does anyone know if there's anything I might be able to do to help her out a bit when it's so hot out? TIA

  • We try to turn the air on in the car for a few minutes before we get in, this way the air blowing on the carseat cools off the material and he's not getting into a hot car seat, this helped to keep him cool once we we driving

  • I take a stroller fitness class with DS and during the crazy hot days, the instructor recommends wrapping a frozen gel pack (the kind you put in lunchboxes) in a towel and placing it near (but not touching) LO. It functions as air conditioning.

  • I try to start the car and get the air blowing before I put her in.  My mom made a carseat cooler thing.  It has 4 pockets to slip those get coolers in and we put it in her seat if we're out and about.  This helps a lot.  I've heard that other moms attached one of small personal fans somewhere in the back seat.

  • I have a vent for the backseat of my car and I can angle it just right toward the ceiling so it will bounce down and hit DS.  My old car didn't have this and I always worried about DD being too hot so I made sure to cool the car off as much as possible before we got in.

  • Try angling the vents towards the ceiling so the air can bounce off the roof towards the back. If the car is in the sun, cover the seat with a light colored blanket/towel when not in use. A sunshade on the front window will also keep the car a little cooler in general.
  • there are these "Car seat cooling pads" by Meeno, you can find them on Amazon. I just got and installed them in my LOs seats. I've started bringing in their seats during the day if we're going out in the car so they don't get all heated up, but hopefully these cooling pads will help when we're out, they're about $30. They also have sunshade covers that are like the reflective material for the window shades that you can get to cover them with and they're only around $8.

Yea this is what I do.

It is also recommended that you do not put anything in the car seat (in between the seat and the child or in between the child and the straps) while driving as it will hinder the seat from working properly in the event of an accident.

You take the convertible out of the car everytime? Isn't it hard to install and uninstall over and over again? Or do you still have the bucket seats?
