How did you know?

Hi ladies,

Just a lurker with one child (so far) but I thought this might be the right board to ask this question.  If you got pregnant again before your first postpartum period, how did you know/find out? Thanks!

I didn't get pregnant before my 1st pp period, but I was EBF so my cycles were really irregular.  It was 4 or more months since my previous period and I was having dark brown spotting which is abnormal for the start of my periods so I tested.

I was on BC, ebfing (no bottles), never got AF back, and on the mini pill when I got pg. 

I didn't know I was pg and found out about 8 weeks along. DD was nursing longer, every 2.5 hours again, and  I was VERY hungry. 

It was just on a whim I took a test and I was more than shocked at a BFP

I just came over here to ask this exact question! lol Do you suspect that you might be pregnant?

The only reason I took a test was bc I hadn't gotten a period at about 8 months PP, so I was going to go to my dr. I knew they'd ask about pregnancy so I took a test just so I didn't seem like an idiot. I got pregnant in September, and attributed my fatigue to starting back to school (I taught and it was a ROUGH group of kids), having a baby, responsibilities at home, etc. Looking back, it makes a lot of sense!  I was almost 14 weeks pg when we went to the dr the first time!

LOL. Right now I know I'm not pregnant because I just had my baby, but we aren't planning on trying to prevent other than EBF, which I know is not 100%.  I was just thinking, "What happens if I get pregnant and I don't figure it out until I start to show?"  Maybe I will just POAS regularly to put my mind at ease.

For me I was bfing had had two unregular cycles and had a nine month old. I was feeling like crap and then the smell of pop corn made my dry heave like it does when I'm pregnant so I tested.

I would suggest cheap home pregnancy test and regular POAS (like monthly).

I stopped BFing DS at 8.5 months and was waiting for my period to return. We weren't using BC so we knew there was a chance of getting pg but we have sex so rarely that I didn't think the chance of getting pg the very first time I ovulated before having a period were very high. Apparently high enough . Right before DS's first b'day I took a test on somewhat of a whim and there it was. I was almost 12 weeks and had had zero symptoms. I barely started showing til 18 weeks with this pregnancy, which I would not have thought possible for me!
