C-sections

How long does it take to feel 100% healed?

I'm just curious. For those of you that have had c-sections, how long does it take to feel 100% healed. Healed to the point where you can exercise vigorously and do anything you want without feeling like you're going to open up or do damage to yourself? I've heard anything from 6 weeks to a year.

Re: How long does it take to feel 100% healed?

  • Most days I'm 100%. Some days, I'm tender and it still feels like my scar could tear open at any second.

maybe at 4-5 months? I walk almost every day but don't work out hard since I don't have childcare at my gym (on a military base).

Abs really, really hurt/burned/felt like they were going to open when I did ab work outs at about 4 months. Everything else felt ok.

I just worked out hard this past monday and it was better. The only pain I am in is the out of shape kind!

  • I had a metric crap-ton of complications but still felt great / essentially back to normal after about a month or so.
  • Its been almost 5 months for me and I still have pains.

You've heard everything from six weeks to a year because it really can be anywhere from six weeks to a year. Or less, or more. It's completely personal and everyone had different delivery experiences and will heal differently.

I didn't feel like myself until about 9 months out. But I had a hard delivery and recovery.

  • At around 4.5 months pp I had to carry my sleeping, 35 lb nephew a long ways (like, blocks). It was tiring because I was out of shape but I didn't feel like I was going to hurt myself. That's the first time I remember doing something virgorous.

ETA: that's not entirely true, I took a pp exercise class at 9 wks-14 wks pp and that was somewhat vigorous, but I wasn't really capable of doing the ab work and took it easy. Carrying my nephew was the first time I felt completely capable and not worried about my abs.

  • I started walking and yoga again around 4 months after and then started back running and strength training at 6 months after.

  • I was running about 4 weeks after my RCS.  I was slow but I essentially felt 100%.

  • Definitely a few months for me, too. I started taking a really intense work-out class when DS1 was 7-8 months, and don't remember my it affecting my scar or abs.

  • Hmmm...I started exercising right at 6 weeks, but started very slowly. I would think I started really pushing myself around 8 months PP. That's when I could do a plank without pain.

  • I felt normal by 1 month out.  I wasn't ready for vigorous workouts, but that was more about having a newborn and not sleeping a lot than it was the c/s.  I started concentrating more on working out at 6 weeks and didn't feel limited at all.

  • I've felt like myself (able to walk a few miles, lift heavy objects, etc.) without worrying about my incision or having pain at about 4 months with each LO.  I just started running again at about 8m PP but I could have at maybe 6m. (I didn't run at all between pregnancies, but that was more about laziness!)
  • Definitely a year when I could work out vigorously without feeling any discomfort near my incision area. In terms of healed to the point where I didn't feel like my incision was going to rip open--3 months.

  • Everyone is different.  Both times I felt 100% back to normal by at least a week PP, but didn't try exercising as I was waiting for clearance from the OB.  With DS I started running again at 8 weeks PP and felt fine.

  • I feel awesome right now and I am 11 weeks out but I am not doing an exercise routine or anything.  I have lifted my DD and she is almost 50lbs.  I feel like I can do anything really and don't have pain.

  • Just before 6 weeks.  I feel like I had a really easy recovery.

  • I felt normal and healed by 8 weeks, but I've never been a heavy exerciser so I can't really say how long it was until I felt like I could do that. I was able to do everything I could do before by 8 week though.

  • The pain in the area completely stopped after two months for me.  But the insides of me took about a year to heal.  I would get hot and nauseous in stores, I would have periods that would start then stop and start again (not a regular cycle), and I think I also had some depression to go along with it all. I started exercising (other than walking) when I was about 9 months out just because I just didn't feel well. :/
  • for me it was 6 weeks.  i was back in the gym when i got the ok.  my pelvis was the issue.  it got separated when pregnant and didn't go back.  hurt like HELL.  it wasn't until i finished up with all my chiro appts that i finally felt better....just a few months ago.  now it only hurts if I run to long
