ER without anesthesia?

Has anyone done an ER without anesthesia?  I get really sick from it.  I emailed my nurse to ask her about it but was hoping for some personal experiences.

 Thanks!!

Re: ER without anesthesia?

  • What kind of anesthesia was it that made you sick?  I know most REs (from what I've been told)  use a Fentanyl/versed combo.  Can you see if there's something else they can give you?  Or maybe they can they give you a spinal instead?  I don't think feeling a needle in my lady bits sucking out eggs would be a fun thing to feel!

  • I've done it.   It's completely bearable.   I wouldn't do it if I get a lot of eggs but it was ok with retrieving 4.  I think that was about the max limit my clinic would do a conscious retrievel.   The worst part for me was they also tried to aspire an endometromia and that hurt.  If it had only been eggs, I think I would have recovered a lot quicker.    I got  extremely hot and pale after the procedure so they gave me some fluids through an IV.

The nice part about it was that I was awake and alert for the remainder of the day. We were staying OOT so DH and I went out for the dinner that night and walked around mall.  Kind of helped take my mind off of things.

  • I wouldn't do an ER without it but they are always very painful for me.  Everyone is different.  I get sick from the anesthesia too.  Tell them and they can give you anti nausea drugs in the IV.  They help some but not completely.

  • Thank you for your advice/stories.  :)  I will check with my RE.  I'm really not looking forward to it.  Even with the anti-nausea stuff I still feel really terrible after.
