Yesterday I asked what you all thought about Gabriel Mark for our boy name (THANKS FOR ALL YOUR RESPONSES), now I'd like to know what your ideas are for a nickname. I'm not really a fan of Gabe as a nn, but what are our other options?
Personally, I wouldn't go with Gabriel if you don't like Gabe. It's not like Gabrielle, which has lots of options like Gabby, Brie and Elle. The most obvious -- and really only -- NN is Gabe and he WILL be called this from time to time. You can somewhat control this when DS is young, but not as he grows up.

lots of children have nicknames that have nothing to do with their names and usually they get those as they grow and something just sparks a nickname
This! I posted about a nn for Lorelei but after thinking about it that name doesn't have to have a nickname. My daughter's name is Ryann and her nn is Birdie....go figure. I do call her Ry Ry from time to time though.

ITA with this. It seems like Gabe would be the only logical nn for Gabriel. You can choose to call him Gabriel and forego the nn, but I'm sure somewhere down the road people will call him Gabe.
My 5 year old son's name is Gabriel and we haven't called him by a nickname yet. Some people have tried calling him Gabe and it doesn't stick. Every family is different, but we really haven't used nicknames with any of our kids. I figure, once he is in school full time and has friends, that's when people will probably start calling him by a nickname.
Re: Opinions on the name yesterday, now a NN?
He could always go by Mark.
Or, I guess he could go by GM, like General Motors or General Manager... Kidding of course.
I like Gabriel (I didn't respond to your OP), and I also like Gabe.
