I was looking for something about sanctimommies and came across this blog:
The Skeptical OB and even though it wasn't what I was looking for, something caught my eye. One of the first things I see is the ad on the right hand side that says 2 out of 3 babies that die in homebirth could be saved in a hospital. Right away that doesn't strike me as right, and I start to actually look at the posts. Whoa. This lady has it out for natural birth, homebirth and midwives. I couldn't even get through an entire post without feeling irrate. I don't even know where to begin arguing with her. Has anyone seen this before? Maybe it is something worth reading, because one should be fully informed, but I don't think I could do it.

Re: Whoa...
That must get interesting. Ugh. I hate when doctors pull the "I'm a doctor" card.

I ran across her blog maybe a month ago after a different post on TB. I can't help but imagine her as a bitter old hag of a woman in person. Her views are pretty in-your-face offensive. She makes me irate as well.
Ditto.
Can't recall if it was Slate.com or somewhere else but Dr. Amy was the featured 'expert' about the dangers of home birth in a recent article. There was a good rebuttal to the piece. Wish I could find the link...
It was the Daily Beast that ran an article with her as the featured "expert" and then Slate published a reaction against that article: https://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2012/07/daily_beast_and_home_birth_fear_trumps_data_in_a_new_story_on_having_babies_at_home_.html
I've read a few of her posts and the thing that sticks out to me is just how willfully obtuse she is (the example that comes to mind is when she asserts that people who want a natural birth "claim they can deal with the pain of labor but are too scared to get an IV" when I think if she actually held a conversation with someone about the topic she would quickly see that the IV is rejected not because of pain but because it can limit mobility and limited mobility can make it harder to deal with labor).
I am glad she does not seem to practice medicine anymore because I can only imagine how she would react to her patients!
Sometimes, I'm hilarious.
