Good Morining,
I am having a RCS on Spetember 25th. My first csection was an emergency and I did not enjoy the experience whatsoever. I have read that the second is much easier. However, I can't get over my fear and anxiety. I have asked my doctor if he can give me something to take that day and he will not....which I do understand is for the safety of the baby. My question is how to cope with the fear and anxiety right now. I feel consumed with worry everday. Any advice would be appreciated.
Re: Anxiety Attacks
Ask the anesthesiologist when you're at the hospital for meds. Mine gave me something just before the c/s that helped me go into the OR calmer, and considering that the baby was out shortly after, I don't feel like it was a big deal to take it pregnant.
I think you need to focus on the fact that most of the time, scheduled c/s are way less hectic and definitely less scary than an emergency c/s. I really enjoyed knowing the exact date of the birth. DH and I went out for a nice dinner the night before, got a good amount of sleep, and calmly drove to the hospital. It's also nice when you've got another child at home - you have plenty of time to make childcare preparations. The procedure itself went really smoothly for me both times, the OR atmosphere was light and happy and whenever I'd get nervous my OB/anesthesia team would remind me how close we were to meeting the baby and how exciting that was!
Just keep focusing on the end result. And remember birth (or anything you do!) carries risk, no matter how it's done. You'll be in a hospital under the care of people who do this procedure multiple times a day. Everyone will be fine!
