A week ago Sunday I went to the hospital with because I thought I was in labor but found I was only dilated 2cm,80% effaced, and -2 and didn't seem to be progressing. They sent me home but said I would most likely go into labor within the week. Then that Tuesday my OB checked my cervix and I was still at 2 and he said I would probably deliver within the next few days.
One week later, today. My doctor has suggested that i do not go past my due date and says next Tuesday my cervix will be checked and I will most likely be induced.
My question is I've been having sporadic contractions for the last couple weeks and every day they seem to get stronger but they're still inconsistent, has anyone else had this and still went into labor naturally without being induced? Inducing scares me because I wanted to avoid Pitocin if I could.
Re: 38 weeks and planning induction :(
This...
What is the reason for induction. Your body sounds like it is in the prep of getting the show on the road dont feel rushed unless there is a need!
Why does your doctor suggest that you not o past your due date?
It would've been wise to include that info in your original post. You made it sound like your doctor was just in a hurry to get you delivered, when really, it sounds like this is what's best for your baby. Follow the doctors' instructions.

OK, but a week from today is still only 39w 1d. If they're adamant about an induction, and it sounds like you have a legitimate medical reason for it, I would push them to schedule it on your due date. It sounds like your body is prepping for labor, and the longer you put off the induction, the more likely you are to a) go on your own and b) avoid a c/s if you end up induced.
Agreed! Please follow your OB's advice. It sounds like you have a very legitimate reason to induce.

I don't understand why people have to be rude, I did not include that information in my original post because it's irrelevant to my question. I did not "make it seem" anything, you assumed my doc is crazy while ignoring the question at hand. I asked if the sporadic contractions I've been having could mean labor before the induction. Thanks but no thanks for your advice
It is certainly possible for you to go into labor on your own before the induction date, but not guaranteed.
If you want to avoid pitocin, you could try being induced (I'd wait til, say, 2 days before scheduled induction so you could try twice if the first didn't work well enough) via acupuncturist. Call around and find one in your area that does it.
And we have no way of knowing if your "sporadic contractions" will put you into labor. Sometimes they will. Sometimes they won't. The average gestation for a FTM is 41w1d.
Also? I walked around at 6cm for 3 weeks with "sporadic contractions" before my 39w0d induction (pre-e.) You just never know.

Calm your horses. The reason people ask is because many women become impatient and just want an induction just cause. It's seen on these boards frequently. There are concerns with inductions but if there is a medical need for it then it outweighs everything else. I had an induction at 37 weeks due to medical reasons and an induction is neither fun or 100%. I was one who ended up with a csection because my baby couldn't handle the induction. I hope that you go into labor naturally but otherwise schedule an induction for when your ob feels us right. Your baby will be here soon--congrats!
Oh, boo hoo. If you think that's mean you should probably quit the internet.

This. How can you expect people to give you informed opinions/thoughts/experiences without provided necessary details?
I'm sorry, that sounds like a difficult situation to be in. Still--you're 38 weeks now and it's hard to tell what direction labor could take in the coming days. I've had friends who hung out in "pre-labor" (sporadic contractions, etc) for days or even weeks. If the deal is not to go past 40 weeks, you still have some time--I wouldn't stress until you need to, and even with the kidney issues, if up to 40 weeks is ok for the doc and for the specialist provided baby is looking ok, I would wait it out a bit longer. But talk game plans with your doc
