Does anyone use a maid service?

At our last house we had a maid referred by a friend.  We just moved and don't know a whole lot of people here to get recommendations from, so I was thinking about hiring a maid service. I thought in some ways it might be easier to deal with a service than with an individual  (our last maid was fine, but she would sometimes call last minute and change the day/time and if she went out of town we didn't have anybody to clean).  I'm just a little hesitant to use a service since I will most likely be giving a key to my home to strangers and it won't always be the same person or people each time.  I guess it's not necessarily safer one way or another.  My mom has had things stolen from her home from service people she has known for years. Anyway, if you have used a maid service, what has your experience been?  Any suggestions for how to find a reputable service?  I thought I'd check Angie's List and the BBB.

  • My husband went on Yelp and found a great team to clean our last place.  We just googled the as well as we could to find any and all reviews, and we were satisfied with what we saw.  We'll use them again if I get pregnant again to help me stay on top of things.  If you already have a subscription to Angie's List, I would use it and you should be just fine!  Good luck!

  • Hi there!

We have always used a single woman (and her assistant) to clean our house. She was a referral from a friend as well, that cleaned most of the homes in our neighborhood and we LOVED her. Unfortunately, she doesn't drive and only services a small area of town so, now that we've recently moved, we've had to find someone new.

Like the PP mentioned, I also went on Yelp.com and just picked the service that had the highest rating with the most satisfied customer reviews. They have come twice now and I'm REALLY impressed with their level of professionalism, promptness, care with my home and furnishings, openess to use MY products and clean what's most important to me, AND their price! I do have to say that they are more than the woman I used at our old house by about $35 per visit. But until I get to know our new neighbors and maybe get another referral, this service will have to do. :)

  • We have used Merry Maids for years, and they have been just fine. We've always had one person who was the same each time, and rotated the second person. The past year or do though it has been the same woman each time. I actually feel really comfortable with them because if anything were to happen, they know who was at our house so I've never been concerned about theft, etc. I would actually be more concerned personally about hiring an individual as they could easily steal and then just "disappear" afterward.
