A 7 week old infant in my state passed away from whooping cough yesterday. He was at the same hospital where I had my son. He was 3 weeks old when he was admitted to the hospital. Everyone in his family was vaccinated. This story shows how important vaccinations are and that pertussis is still prelavent in the modern world.

Re: Infant dies from whooping cough
Oh no!
A distant relative of DH is one of "those". She reads a portion of some article and makes up the rest of the story and she thinks that vaccinations cause cancer and spina bifida.
So naturally she's not vaccinating her baby! Way to go moron!
The article is definitely an eye opener.
This!!
That's awful to hear about that baby dying though. Another reason I ask anyone who's sick to kindly wait until they're better before holding my baby.
This one's gonna end well.

The problem with this statement is that we can't choose to do our own parenting by never letting our kiddos hang out with you or your kiddos, because you don't broadcast the fact that your family is a walking bio-hazard zone to everyone you interact with on a daily basis. That darling 7 week old COULDN'T be vaccinated. He got sick when he was 3 weeks old. And he got sick from some stranger who decided that his life was not as important as their "freedom" to choose to not get vaccinated. I am not sure I could live with myself if I discovered I had killed a baby by making the decision not to vaccinate myself or my kiddos--but hey, if you can, then I guess you will continue to just rock on with life.
But don't kid yourself that this is a personal decision that you alone should have the power to make, unless you do live on an island with only your family and choose to NEVER interact with the rest of the world. If you live in a society, you have to make certain sacrifices for the good of the society as a whole. Vaccinating healthy people to both ensure that they don't get sick in the future and to give herd immunity to the chronically ill and babies who are too young to be vaccinated is the price you should have to pay to live in modern society.
I get SO VERY SICK of this "just because I choose not to vaccinate my kids it's no concern of yours."
YES IT BLEEPING WELL IS.
Herd immunity. Look. It. Up.
Every person not vaccinated is a hole punched in herd immunity. Every person not vaccinated is risking the health of people who a) can't be vaccinated b) have been vaccinated but have suppressed immune systems or c) have been vaccinated and for some reason it didn't 'take'.
Everyone gets vaccinated because it's not just to protect YOU it's to protect THE HERD.
