Go home, open box, beat in some eggs and oil.

Pour in pan.

Bake.

Ice the cake.

Both boys have dairy allergies, so it's off to our local vegan bakery.

DS1's 2 birthday cakes have been from VPC (that's the name), and have been AMAZINGLY tasty!!  

 

The only cakes I have made from scratch are german chocolate and carrot cakes.  I don't know that I would make either of these for a 1st Birthday Party otherwise I'd totally share the recipes.

I am buying a small cake for DD to smash and just making chocolate cupcakes (box mix) for the guests. Cheap and easy.

Find cute cake - Tell the lady behind the counter "I want that one"

Pay for said cake

Get back in car and drive home.

Be sure to soak your knife in hot water before cutting.

cadegani, that strawberry cake looks amazing. I think I might give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, I have a friend who actually MADE the rainbow cake for her DD's birthday. Let's just say I am jealous of her mad skills.
