My daughter is 10.5 months old, and I am 11 weeks pg. We are so thrilled to be having our second baby, but I am also worried! My oldest has been a mommys girl from day 1! She rarely lets my husband put her to bed, and if I am available, would rather play with me than anyone else. I stay at home with her, and rarely have an excuse to spend any time away from her, not that I would want to! How do I begin to get her ready for another baby? I am really nervous, and not sure what to do. Thanks.
Re: Sharing Mommy Time
I think you have a good amount of time left. You daughter is going to change and grow so much before your newest addition arrives. I recently read that around this time (10.5 months or so) babies start enjoying playing alongside other babies; they begin to act more social. My daughter isn't around other babies much at all. I work and my mom has been watching her, so she's pretty isolated. Now that I'm on summer break I'm trying to get her around other babies/kids at least once a week. She's becoming less skiddish around them, which is nice to see.
Maybe you can find a mommy and me group near by to have park play dates or something? You can even start talking about how she's going to be a big sister and will help you so much when the baby arrives. I've discovered that my daughter already understands so much of what we're telling her.
I've also started having DH put DD to bed each night (if he's home in time). It's become very difficult/painful for me to put her into her crib, so it's nice to see that she'll let him put her to sleep. For the longest time she'd only let me do it.
Everything will be fine! Congrats!
She has always been surprisingly social, espicially for being so isolated with me. Our friends have all recently started having kids, and she loves to kiss and hug and play with any baby she meets. Im just worried she will try and smother the new baby with kisses!! Shes wonderful when im not arround, both of my parents have watched her several times, when my husband and i have had something to do. However, she will not let them put her to bed, it can be 3 in the morning and she will wait up for me to do it. I think bed time is what I am most afraid of.
Congrats to you also! Its great that your daughter will let your husband put her to bed!
