I've not posted on this board before, so thank you in advance. DD turned 10 months today. She is not crawling, scooting, pulling up, cruising, or well, just about anything. She sits like a champ though! She can roll (as evidenced any time I put her on her belly, which she hates).
Pedi isn't concerned until one year. Neurosurgeon we saw today for her helmet isn't concerned. But his PA was, and asked us if we had her in physical therapy.
I should add that DD is almost 25 lbs, so a little chunker. Pedi says that's an awful lot of weight to move. (But not concerned about her weight, if that makes any sense).
What more can I be doing?
Re: 10 months old, not moving...at all. ?
My DD just started army crawling a couple days ago. She does not pull to sit or stand. She cannot even stand up even while holding on to the ottoman for more than 2 seconds In fact she didn't roll over until she was 6 months old or sit on her own without tipping over until 8 months. Some kids are slower than others. If your pedi isn't concerned then try not to worry about it.
But...I had a situation when dd was 6 months where our ped noticed the folds in her legs didn't match up, and she sent us for xrays which came back fine. Last week at her 10 month appt she decided she wants to send us to a specialist to make sure her hips are okay. I'm telling you this because 4 months ago I wanted to take her to a specialist and everyone told me not to worry, That the xrays came back fine and I was over reacting. Now I wish I would have taken her then and ignored everyone else! Now that she should be walking in a few months, I can't help but feel like this could have been corrected several months ago.
My point...go with your gut. at least, if anything you know she's fine!!! And if there is something wrong, you will be glad you didn't wait.
Good Luck!!! Keep us posted!!!
I can tell you from our experience what we chose to do, our LO is 11 months (today yay!) and about 3 weeks ago he wasn't crawling, cruising, pulling to stand, similar to your LO. I had been concerned for a few months but was assured by everyone that all babies develop differently and not to worry, well I finally convinced hubby to call EI and have him evaluated. I am of course worried that there may be something wrong but feel so much better that someone will be coming out to evaluate him. They will be out in the beginning of August. Having said that in the past two weeks, he has begun to really start to move and I'm seeing drastic changes in his motor development, his cognitive skills are still behind, but he is now army crawling, he can get from lying down to sitting on his own, (just started yesterday) and he pulled himself to stand twice. I am a worrier by nature and so I generally tend to be a bit drastic but I'm a big believer in doing what you feel in your gut. I'm sure your LO is fine but if you're concerned it can never hurt to ask someone such as your local EI office
DS isn't chunky and started to crawl around 8 1/2 months, BUT, he really hated tummy time and didn't roll over or even push himself up off the ground with his arms for a long time.
We decided to take him to an infant chiropractor who took one look at him and said, "oh his shoulder is stuck!" It looked the same as the other one to me, but I'm no expert. She did an adjustment (with a clicker), put him on his belly on the table, and he pushed himself up for the first time like he'd been doing it for months. Crawling followed soon after.
I know chiropractic care for infants may be something people feel is silly, but it worked for DS. I honestly have no idea when he would have started to crawl if we hadn't gone to her, and we haven't needed to go back since.
Just something to think about.
Also, the average age for crawling is 7-10 months, which means there are plenty of babies who crawl past 10 months. I know it's frustrating to watch other babies hit milestones and want your LO to also, but hang in there. As a friend of mine with 6 kids said to me, "They all walk."
:-)
At our 9 month checkup my son wasn't doing anything but sitting there. Dr said if by 10 months or so nothing had really changed to maybe see a physical therapist. She wasn't worried about him but just thought if he was developing slow to get him some help sooner rather than later. Not crwaling alone is not a big deal she said but doing nothing put him behind. But overall it's not a big deal and it doesn't mean there is something wrong...she will walk one day
