Re: need some opinions...

  • I rocked my boys until they were 8 months actually, 5.5 months adjusted.  At that point I did have to do some CIO to get them to fall asleep on their own.  I don't think you can "create bad habits" until at least 3 months of age.

  • I still rock my 19m old.  We sing two songs and then I lay her in her crib.  She's never had a big problem falling asleep on her own.  I say keep rockin'! ;)
  • I rock to sleep, but I know for a fact DD would not put herself to sleep on her own. I enjoy rocking her and usually she goes down fairly easily.  She is still too young to be creating bad habits anyways.

  • What's wrong with rocking her? I still rock my 13 month old. I figure she'll only want me to rock her for so long and I cherish it.

  • Your baby is only 5 weeks adjusted- pretty soon she'll be kicking and wiggling when you want to rock and snuggle. I vote that you cherish these moments- they are fleeting. Worrying too much about the future will make you miss how amazing the present is.

  • My advice, do WHATEVER YOU WANT with her until she is at least 3 months adjusted.  Then, maybe, start doing a routine and thinking about building "good habits".   There is absolutely no reason to think about her sleep until then.  She is going to do the newborn thing until then (maybe longer).

Eventually they all sleep through the night.  Some STTN right away, some don't sttn until they are 2.
