3rd Trimester

Back Fat?!?

I just noticed I have back fat! How do I get rid of it? I'm thinking of heading back to my old trainer for the next couple of months but will double check with my OB this week.  I'm mainly looking for specific exercises that are okay during pregnancy. (I'm clueless since I've only ever done basic stuff other then going to the trainer when I was losing the ridiculous amount of weight I gained with DS!)

Now is not the time to be worrying about back fat, or any other kind of fat, let alone starting a new workout routine. Go to the trainer after the birth. In the meantime, you can probably do some light exercises with free weights (probably no more than 5-8 pounds). You can find a ton of low-impact/exertion ones of youtube.

This. I have gained a bit of "extra" weight in my arms, back, legs, etc but I am relying/hoping on breastfeeding to help me lose that weight and once I am 6 weeks PP, I might start a workout routine. I am seriously side eyeing the fact that back fat is even on your mind right now...

  • I'm already doing 30 minutes of power walking a few times a week and I use 10+ lb weights for different arm exercises as it is.  It's hard to describe the feeling I have most of the time these days. But overall I feel like I'm not getting enough exercise.  I'm pleased with my weight gain as is the doc so I'm not trying to lose weight or anything.  Just maybe keep it toned up and not do what I did last time.

Ok, so given that you're already doing moderate exercise and it's not about weight gain, I'm not sure what would make you happy here. Look up some exercises for your upper back and do those with your weights (with your OB's permission, of course). Otherwise, this sounds like an insecurity issue on your part, stemming from past experiences. Doing more than that is not a good idea.

  • Just walk everyday and watch what you eat.  Starting something new with a trainer at this point is silly.

  • Confused It's called the 3rd tri.  Shiit falls apart.  Stepping up your exercise routine is not the best plan.  Stop looking at your back.

Ugh. Mine has gotten freaking out of control in the past month or so. It seriously makes me cry almost once a day, no joke. I hate it so much. I don't know of any exercises to do while pregnant that will help, but just know that you're not alone!!

  • I have back fat too, mainly because my posture is different. You become sway back during pregnancy, which makes it more pronounced. Just watch what you eat and stay active.

And yeah, back fat is fun. No clue what to do to get rid of it, specifically.

  • most likely it will go away with your post pregnancy weight loss.  I know its uncomfortable, I have it too, but its probably best to just leave it alone until after baby is here.  Some light weight lifting might be okay, but its not really recommended to be doing overhead lifting at this point.
