Falling AMH-how does this even happen

Last summer my AMH was 1.1 and I was diagnosed with DOR.  In December it was 1.0.  We just re-drew and its now down to a .29.

How does it decrease so much so quickly?!  At this poing I'm wondering if there even is a point to doing another IVF cycle.

Re: Falling AMH-how does this even happen

  • Being DOR is the biggest thorn in my side. I'm out of cycles, though, so even if mine fell it wouldn't matter. I'm sorry hun.

  • It just does with DOR.  My dropped from 0.92 in 1/11 to 0.3 in Sept. 11.  It's probaby undetectable now..

But even though they say that the number doesn't fluctuate, it can.   Mine went up from the 0.3 in Sept 11 to 0.37 in Dec. 11.

Sorry you got these results but your AFC is more important imo. Some RE's don't even use AMH as it is still deemd "experimental".

  • Were they done at the same lab? Anyway, it's a number and a guide or estimate; not some be-all, know-all, end-all factor. You need to look at your AFC and all those other things that go into a DOR dx to see the whole picture. In the end, the real deal is how you respond to meds in real life. And even if your OR is declining, your age may still be on your side. Plenty of girls here have super crap OR and get pregnant (and BTW freak out but never come back to share their stories).

  • My therapist described it as your fertility falling off a cliff and that's exactly what mine did in the last year. AMH is down, my AFC cut in half. Yes, DOR sucks but for me, the biggest problem is that my body just doesn't respond to stims well at all. Give me 12 days of 600iu Follistim, and I'll show you two deadbeat follies. Sorry for the news. If you respond ok, I see no reason to not try again.

  • It def does not hurt to try again. You have been "successful" in the past. Unfortunetly, this happens with DOR. I went from having an AFC of 16 in Jan 2011 to an AFC of 6 by June 2011. After that some months it was 3 others it was 6. Similar thing happened with my younger sister.

Mine decreased quickly too!  When first drawn my AMH was 0.5 and 9 months later it was  <0.1.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this!

  • Yes - your AMH can be very temperamental.  Mine took a nose dive in a relatively short period of time.  As said above, there are many other factors to take into account - including age.  So sorry that you have to deal with this.
    TTC since 3/07. IVF#1 = canceled. IVF#2 = 0% fertilization. IVF#3 = BFN. IVF#4 = c/p.
    Moving forward with Adoption 2017!
