~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~

Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO?s intolerance. The check-ins will be posted every Monday morning on the Breastfeeding board and XP?d to the Food Allergy board. I will RP a link to the check-in on the Breastfeeding board on Monday evenings for the nighttime posters, if the check-in isn't on the first page of posts. If you'd like to join the group, just post an intro here and dive in!

QOTW: Have you had any particularly good (or bad) experiences eating out while on the MSPI diet?

Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~

  • The best experience I've had so far is at Cheesecake Factory. The server wrote down that I can't have dairy, soy, or eggs (I was avoiding eggs at the time) and she was very knowledgeable about what was in the menu items I asked about. I ended up asking if they could just do a plain chicken breast and veggies and she said that wouldn't be a problem. She had them prepare my meal separately from everyone else's and she brought it to the table just a minute before everyone else's food. And it tasted great too!

Other fast food type things I've had are fries from Chick-fil-A and Papa John's pizza, minus the cheese. I was surprised to find I didn't even miss the cheese! Their plain breadsticks are safe too. I've heard Panera has a binder you can look through with allergen info, I just wish it was on their website. I love that so many places have allergen info on their websites these days. It's just hard to find items that don't contain dairy and soy!

  • That's good to hear about the Cheesecake Factory!  We're going to Chicago next month and I love it there, but wasn't sure there was anything the kids or I could get there.

Wendy's has been surprisingly dairy free for me.  I like their chili and the berry almond salad w/o cheese.  Their fries are dairy free too.  (don't know about soy, though).

    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • The most helpful place for me is Panera since I can check the binder. Also if you order a sandwhich and the spread has dairy try the balsamic dressing on the side and dip the sandwhich in it, it's so yummy! I also get Thai food a lot since it is dairy free. Last night my DH and I got a veggie chicken pizza with no cheese and that was awesome. You just have to ask to make sure the crust and sauce is cheese free too. Lastly if you have Wegmans by you their 6$ meals have lots of dairy free choices and they have good sushi and wraps.

Nana's and Nightwood might be good options to try in Chicago!

Both are farm to table (making it easy to find out what's in everything) and delicious!!

  • I'm joining y'all. LO has been gassy since he was born and at first I thought it was a foremilk imbalance. I also decided to stop drinking milk and switched to almond milk. That seemed to help and he wasn't as gassy. Until last week, when we found blood in his diaper. We are trying just dairy free first and if needed, I will go soy free too.

I spent the weekend googling like a crazy person trying to build a list of snacks and recipes. I'm still depressed over giving up cheese though, I never realized how much cheese we eat. Has anyone tried the Daiya subsitute cheese? Wondering if it is worth it.

I've given DD1 Daiya cheese and she liked it. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet. I've heard good things about it from other people though!

  • So far I've only tried Chipotle and In n Out because they're near me and have good allergen info online. Oh! The best though was this local donut shop that has several vegan and soy-free donuts. Oh how I've missed my pastries!

Ooh, I'm so jealous! I miss donuts so bad! I've thought about making some at home, but I haven't tried to yet.
