coffee tables

With cruisers in the future, what are you ladies doing with your coffee tables?

We have a pretty small LR with a corner couch and a giant square coffee table made out of wood with slate in the middle.  It has lots of sharp edges, and the space between it and the couch is very small.  I'm not much of a worry-wart, but I know if LO took a tumble he would smack his jaw or face on the table.

I'm definitely moving that table elsewhere, but want to replace it with something- we need a place for drinks and our feet!  I'm torn between one of those soft leather storage ones, a circular ottoman, or upholstering a cheapo coffee table from goodwill. Anybody have any unique (and cheaper) ideas?

  • We ordered a coffee table topper from Little Tumblers.  We have the exact opposite coffee table from you - slate on the sides with wood in the middle!

  • We have one of the leather storage ones, see siggy. We do keep the top upside down so the tray shows, but the rest of it is padded. DS started cruising around it this past week, his favorite new activity!

    Ours is from Target.

  • We are going to move our coffee table to the basement for the time being. We also have an end table, which we are planning on leaving, so I think I will get those rubber edge guards for that one.

My in-laws have a great leather ottomon in their living room. It's pretty big so they just keep a small try for drinks in the center of it, this way you can still put your feet up on it. It's so soft, I think DD would bounce right off if she fell into it. If I had more space I would definitely get one of those.

  • We have an ottoman for a coffee table, so it's upholstered and soft. No worries for us.

  • We have a round, wood coffee table - no sharp corners, but the edge would still really hurt if she fell into it - I'm thinking we might get one of the safety 1st stretchy bumper things (it's like a hair scrunchy, sort of, that hugs the edge of the table) - looks easy to put on and take off without damaging the table.

  • We have an oval coffee table.  It is mainly for looks we don't put drinks on it but do have pictures on it.  We have had to move it since our son is mobile now and is pulling up too.  We are thinking about taking it apart and putting it in our attic until he gets older then take it back out.  He loves to crawl and the coffee table is just in the way for him right now.  We are actually still paying on it from Rooms to Go so I hate to put it away, but for my son to have more playing room it is worth it.
