newborn stash, how does it look?

Or, sound, should I say

8 NB Charlie Banana pockets

6 Lil Joeys AIO

12 orange edge NB GMD prefolds

8 NB GMD workhorse

4 bummis super brite Covers

plus 3 dozen flannel wipes and 1 dozens double sided GMD terry cloth wipes

Re: newborn stash, how does it look?

  • Looks like your total number of diapers and covers are good, but you might want to actually exchange a couple of your bummis covers (if they are all NB) for a couple of smalls. My little guy was 8#15 when he was born and the NB covers only fit for about 2 weeks after we came home.

Another good alternative are Thirsties Duos in size 1 because they'll go up to 16lbs or so.

What about wet bags? I actually have 3 large planetwise ones and would recommend that many - I fill up 2 before I do laundry. I also have 2 medium ones for my diaper bags in case one is dirty.

    Snappis for your PFs?

CJsButter or similar for diaper rash? DS definitely needed it during the NB phase when it seemed like every diaper was poopy!

  • Thanks for your reply!

I will get some Thirsties size ones like suggested, I was torn between those and the Bummies.

I plan on getting a few Planetwise pail liners for at home, and a wet bag for away from home , maybe another one for the main floor of the house too....as well as the shoulder wet/dry bag to use like a diaper bag.

and yes need to find a good diaper cream, and perhaps some reusable or disposable liners

IMO - liners were worthless during the NB stage. I don't think they are bothered by the wetness and the poo isn't like poop - it's a complete mess and the liners just seemed to make it worse. Unlike when they are older, everything can just go in the wash.

When they start solids, there are about 2 weeks of "peanut butter poop" that a liner (or diaper sprayer, or designated scraper!) is useful. Then, they get plop-able and I've found no use for liners again.

  • Thanks for the tip! I wont bother with NB liners.

Did you CD from birth? I want to, but have been hearing so much about how bad meconium is, I was under the impression in the wash it would be washed away, but now I have doubts......

  • Ditto the thirsties covers... I love them.

DD's meconium was gone before she left the hospital... I didn't CD in the hospital, but from what I've read here, meconium stains can be solved by putting the diapers in the sun.

Is it only about two weeks? Party!!! I was expecting it to take longer than that!

This. DS ate and pooped like a champ immediately so the meconium was gone when we left the hospital.

  • we cd'd our dd from her second diaper in the hospital and are now almost two weeks in.  The meconium stopped on day 4 and all stains were completely sunned out except for one diaper that still has a faint shadow but really it's just the inside of a diaper so i'm not really concerned.

I'm using totbot minis and grovia newborns.
