we got my lo ears done when she was 3 wks. we was adviced to use the backs that was on the earrings she had her ears periced with when we change her earrings, i guess cause they are the safety backs and wont come off. so thats what we did. so for 8 months when we would put a diffrent pair in,we used the same back and never had a problem. last night i am sure she had her earrings in when i put her to bed. im use to her with them in i would know, plus she had bath before bed, and i always wash around the earrings well. this morning as soon as i got her out of bed i noticed she was missing a earring. idk how it came off but i figured it must be in her bed. i looked in the bed, moved it out an looked in the floor but i cant find it. we have looked the whole house over. could she have swallowed it without choking? if so will it pass? or could it harm her insides?
Re: missing earring!
Do you ever have a day free of drama??
Yes she could have swallowed it. Yes it would pass, unless, of course it piereced through her insides and is stuck inside her body not in her gestational track. Yes it could harm her, it was something sharp, after all.
We've been having this exact problem. For 5 months DD didn't notice she had her ears pierced, now everyday a back is off or an earring is missing. So far I have found all the earrings, but I am short a couple of backs.I have never observed DD touching her ears, I am thinking it happens in her sleep.
I would be worried if it was a piercing stud she swallowed since they are pointy and sharp, I guess even a regular earring could cause issues. Have you shaken out her pjs? that is where I have found two earrings. Maybe call the pedi and ask what they think.Hopefully you find it so you can stop worrying.
I don't know much about babies with ear piercings (I had mine done when I was 10 and don't know any babies with them IRL), but would the holes close up if you left the earrings out overnight? I know that after the first month or whatever when I wasn't allowed to take mine out when they were first pierced, I always took my earrings out for bed. It was more comfortable and then I couldn't lose the backs while asleep. Since the problems seem to be happening when your DDs are sleeping, can't you put them to bed without the earrings in?
Personally, if my kid swallowed (or potentially swallowed) an earring or back, I would let the hole close up and get them re-pierced when she was older. OP, check with your pedi and good luck.

Call your pedi's office and see what they think. While the chance that she swallowed it seems slimmer than the probability of just loosing it, an X-ray would show if she has ingested a metallic object. They can decide how to handle it from there.
