Runners - sore obliques?

Hello all --

A question for my fellow runners - are you finding you have sore obliques after long runs? This just hit me this weekend, and while it make sense, given that I'm 'thicker' than usual, I didn't think it would really be an issue for at least another few weeks.

Anyone else having a similar reaction?

Re: Runners - sore obliques?

  • In general my abs and other core muscles have been more sore than usual, although (admittedly) I haven't been doing much, if any, core work at all of late (bad me :)  And just this morning on my run, I seem to have pulled something in my right hip, even though I did nothing at all out of the ordinary and in fact ran a flatter course than ever.  Hmm.

  • I also have found that my core is more sore than usual.  I do notice it a little more after my long runs, though.   And I haven't been doing as much core work (hardly any... :/ ).  My back has been tight, though, and my sister (an athletic trainer) thinks it is because I am running slower and have altered my gait a little.  Totally possible, which could also lead to sore abs.
  • It's too freaking hot for a long run in my opinion. It's killing me :(. But I do notice my core being a little more sore in general. I'm doing roughly 4 miles 3 times a week right now. Stupid heat, so sick of the treadmill...
  • So its not my core that hurts when I run, but my butt. Like someone is actually kicking me in the butt when I run and it hurts

  • Even when I go for a walk I notice my stomach tensing on me fairly early into it. It's not like normal sore muscles, but more like strain? But when I go to my water aerobics I don't notice it. Very odd.
