Lurking over on the October 2012 board (I like to remember where I was this time last year) and I saw this gem...

At first glance its the classic book/card thing but half way down the page I see this gem of encouragement :

"I fell in love with the idea and will be using it for my shower. I am co-planning my own shower with my mother as we are both out of state, so I just included a cute little insert I made in powerpoint with a poem on it.

I have seen mixed reviews about the idea but I think it fits for my shower and the guests invited. Good Luck!"

 Also, further down someone else is giving everyone her "great" idea about having a cloth diaper raffle... but don't worry, she registered for them so guests wouldn't bring the wrong ones to the raffle

I have only personally encountered this request once.

I sent a gift from the registry. I did not send a book. 

I did not attend the shower.

I can get over some violation of etiquette, but this is crazy. I think they are starting to avoid the shower board because they don't want to be told they are tacky.

I love when posters try to defend the request and then throw in a line saying if people get all bent out of shape about it, they're not the type of people they'd want attending the shower anyway. Apparently friends and family have to blindly follow the train of tackiness, and if not, they don't really care about the MTB or her offspring.
