Stand alone. I have a friend Ellie and that's all she ever goes by. Never uses her full name Eleanor, ever.

My SO's daughter (4) is Elizabeth but we call her Elle Such a cute name! With our LO we thought about Elliyana but was too close.

Our girl name is Ellery, so you could use that. I'm on my second boy, so I haven't been able to use it yet!

Also, I've seen this done with the name Amelia or Emily.  But I think it's a beautiful stand alone name.

I am not a fan of Ellie. It is so popular and over done.

 

With being said:

Eleanor, or Ella would work for the NN Ellie.

This. Which is too bad, because I loved it after seeing Up.

My favorite longer names for it are Elinor and Eloise.

I wouldn't use it as a stand-alone, for sure.

I think that you could use Ellie as a nickname for Eliana. I've always thought that it was a pretty name.

DD is Elowyn and she is mostly called Ellie.

I always say this when this names comes up, but I know EIGHT little Ellie's.  It's one of those names that is difficult to track the popularity of because there are so many full names that can get you to Ellie.  Their full names are: Elizabeth (x2), Eliana (x2), Ellis, Ellen, Ellie, and I can't remember the other one right now -- Eleanor?  Anyway, lots of names will take you there!  Good luck!

I wouldn't have Ellie as a standalone name. I'm so glad my parents gave me a full name and didn't just name me Allie because I would hate to be an adult with such a childish name. Give her the option.

We're using Eloise (NN Elsie but you could use Ellie) if this is a girl.

You could use Elizabeth, Elise, Elle (I think Elle has more of a professional sound that "grows" better than Ellie)

Eliora is my favorite with the nn Elle or Ellie. Eleanora would be my second choice.
