Catnapper - help!

I feel like I have tried everything. Swaddle, no swaddle. Crib, swing, white noise, rocking. Dd will not sleep longer than 20 min at a time during the day. The longest stretch is prbably half an hr. When she wakes, I try to shush or rock her back to sleep but she is wide awake. But I feel like she is basically tired all day long, and we spend the entire day trying to go back down for a nap. I look for signs that he is tired and put her down right away...it just doesn't seem to work. Anyone else going through this? Any suggestions??

Re: Catnapper - help!

  • DS is the sane way - the only time he naps longer is if we take him for a drive or if I nurse him on my pillow, let him fall askeep at the boob, and don't move for 3 hours :p he does seem quite tired and it makes him fussier, but on the otherhand he does 5th stretches at night those days. For me it's a case of pick your poison I guess.
Nevermind me, I'm too distracted by my mini-carrots to think properly image

  • Mine does the same. If I hold him, I can get 3hours out of him. We bed-share, so he nurses off and on all night, but he sleeps from about 9-7, only waking to nurse. He loves being out and about, and he'll sleep the whole time.
  • Carseat? Dd takes her longest naps when she falls asleep in the car. I carry the seat into the house and she sometimes sleeps 3 hours.

Also, totally off topic, but I read the title and thought someone had stollen your cat. I'm an idiot.

  • DS started sleeping 8 hrs at night this week (yea!) but now only catnaps during the day.  Sorry, no advice to give, but ur not alone.

  • What worked for me is to follow the sleep, eat, awake, back to sleep routine (Secrets of the Baby Whisperer method).  I found that if I kept LO awake a bit longer to make sure he was really tired when ready to sleep again, that helped.  Also, at times I nursed him again before he was ready to sleep so that he would have a full tummy.

I've been there- what worked for me was to literally get out a pen and paper and track his cues for a few days.  I was finding that he would nap for short periods as well.  It helped to look back on how the day went and see areas where I could do something about his "rhythm."  Not sure if that helps, but at least worth a shot.  Good luck!
