Natural Birth

Bahahahaa- oh really?

Well- I've had false labor, I've had BH, I've had lots of fun stuff as my body prepares for L and D. Today I had what I thought would be my "40 weeks 5 day appointment". Well, after looking back at my records- my OB tells me they believe they got my due date wrong. That I'm actually a week behind. This probably explains why my LO isn't ready to meet the world yet! lol

My doctor didn't want to push for an induction- (which being that I've heard of OB's like that I was happy!) though I was continually asked by nurses (I did a non-stress test) if I was going to be induced soon. "Ummmm, no. Not even my OB is suggesting that at this point."

Do I want to meet my little man ASAP- did the push back disappoint me a little- yeahh but I'm okay. I'm honestly laughing about it. SO I will be "40 weeks" on Saturday! lol More waiting. oh well- if I were 40 weeks 5 days then they would probably have put more pressure on me for induction which I don't want. So this is actually working toward my goal! I just have to be patient!

  • Wow! I've never heard of a changed due date so late in the game! Here's hoping your little man makes his appearance soon!

  • Good Attitude Momma! You are impressive!
  • Oh wow! I am glad you can laugh about it! Ha! That's awesome your OB wasn't pushing for an induction. And as a FTM, my first thought was "Oh wow I am glad they didn't spring that news on her towards the end of the first tri!" I just remember at the end of the first tri being so relieved to have reduced risks of losing our LO (I was higher risk to begin with) plus also the horrible morning sickness ceasing etc. Then again, I hear the final weeks of pregnancy can be pretty rough too (gonna find out soon enough!)
  • Why would they change it now???

  • Really, I'd rather my due date be moved than be scheduled for induction again.

Thanks! lol I feel better about it now simply because it means tomorrow I will be at 40 weeks verses 41- to me that's easier to take than being told I'm 9 weeks instead of 10 and feel that much further from the end!!! lol So yes, I would not have taken this well at any other time! :)

Why would they change it now???

I had a different care provider for my first appt at 6 weeks. So when I changed they re-projected my due date with their ultra-sound at 20 weeks. They didn't pay attention to the records that were brought in from my previous provider (from my understanding you get more accurate due dates earlier on verses later because development is more clear). So when we discussed this with my OB- I reminded him of said ultra-sound at 6 weeks (which was with previous provider) and he went back and looked. I'm also measuring just around 40 now anyway- so he was wondering to begin with. I go to a "Group" place where there are 6 different OB rotating patients- I generally stay between two guys who I think are awesome but I think the mix around- things get overlooked. However they have been really supportive of my natural birth choices so I take the good with the bad.

  • I've also often wondered what causes docs to change due dates? This happened to a friend of mine and it seems to be a common thing lately. I don't see them changing mine though because I happen to know the exact date of coneption - and how do you argue with that? I wonder if they would even try?

Yeah, I also know when I conceived.  However at my first u/s at 11 weeks the doc told me my due date was 2 days before I "thought" it was.  Um, no, the due date my doc told me would put conception happening the day before DH got home from deployment.  I tried explaining this, but she didn't care and left the due date as is.  Whatever.  We have multiple docs/midwives that rotate through the practice so it's a 1 in 7 chance I'll have to deal with her each time.

The new office tried projecting mine too late in the game and things got garbled. Probably wouldn't have happened had I not changed providers but I wanted a more natural friendly environment.

  • Wow, well at least, like you said, they are not pushing for induction, that's good. But wow, that is crazy that they changed your due date. Can't wait for your birth story. Hopefully any day now.
