This home study process has gone way smoother than I expected (knock on wood). Don't get me wrong, the first couple days of filling out papers and trying to coordinate everything was exhausting, but I think we are all set with everything. I did my FBI live scan today and got our results instantly which was great, 4 of our letters of recommendation have already been sent, our medical evaluations are done...so now we just have to sit back and wait for our social worker to contact us to set up the two home visits. They are tentatively scheduled for July 21 and July 28, and then I was told they are required to finalize the home study within 30 days of the second home visit, so that means we'll be completing this in 6 weeks! We considered paying an extra $300 to expedite, but 6 weeks is so much better than what I was expecting so I am fine leaving it at that.
From reading some other stories, I feel like this is going particularly well, so I'm pretty happy right now. Again, let's just hope my social worker doesn't flake out on us!
Did most of you do live scan? I know only certain states allow it (I'm in NC). We ended up paying $48/person for it and I was wondering if anyone paid less for the instant live scan results? I know you could do the longer process for $15/person.
Re: Sent Home Study Packet Today!
Wow you really are moving fast! I'm impressed. I just sent in my first set of paperwork today. I will be scheduling medical evaluations tomorrow (doctor's office closed today) and then awaiting further instructions. I'm excited to be doing something at all right now, after so much waiting. Good luck to you!
Yea, I spent pretty much all day Sunday and Monday doing this stuff. Good luck, we'll have to keep each other posted!
Wow sounds like you are on top of things! That is awesome. I think we did livescan, but I'm not 100% sure. We just went wherever they told us to go! :-P We're doing international though- are you doing domestic?
Anyway, hope it continues to go well!

Yea domestic. Livescan fingerprint just makes it so that you get your FBI criminal check within days (for me it was within minutes) rather than weeks. It's becoming more popular so I was told most people do it this way. It's quicker but much more expensive.
Crene84, I also live in NC. My husband and I are just starting to do some research into adoption and would love to know which agency you are working with.
Good luck to you!
Sounds like we have lots of people adopting in NC! I'm about to send you a private message!
