Reccomend your woven wrap...

Love my ergo and linen ring sling, but I was hoping you all could reccomend your woven wraps.  I am new to wraps, but I used a friend's recently and loved it.  I am in Hawaii, so we are outside a lot and it is almost always 85 degrees or so.  I purposely got the linen sling and ergo sport to ensure LO and I do not get too hot.  I was leaning toward a Girasol....but is that the way to go?  Or should I buy a couple different styles used and figure out what works best? Also, I am 5'8, 150 lbs (roughly a size 8/10).  I was planning on getting a 4.6. Does that sound like the right size for me?  Thanks so much!

Re: Reccomend your woven wrap...

  • If I would go with a Girasol I would get their diamond weave instead of their twill. I have had both and find the diamond weave to be a lot more airier for hot weather. It is also has a bit more supportive. I found that myself grabbing my Ellevill Zara recently for hot weather. As well as my Didymos Anthracite Pfau which is hemp blend that I find very airy.

A 4.6 or size 6 wrap is standard size and I think would be perfect for you. You may have a bit of tail, but it better to have too much length then not enough. It also depends on how big your baby is also, but a size 6 is good to do most all carries.

Girasol have some amazing and beautiful wraps and their price isn't that bad considering some of the other wovens!!   Good Luck!

  • I just ordered a Wrapsody Bali Breeze wrap because they are supposed to be airy for hot weather. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't say if it's good or not, but it gives you another brand to look into.

  • I love my linen wrap in the hotter weather. I have a Didymos Steel Blue Fische. I also have a Elleville Zara that is nice and thinner, but not diggy. Those two are by far my favorite wraps.

I also have a Hemp wrap that I like, but don't love, and a Girasol that I almost never wear. Some people love them, but... not me. I love the colors though! lol.

  • I find Girasols to be too blanket-like for hot weather but if you like them, I agree with a pp who recommended a diamond weave.

I have been loving my Hoppediz Pune and my Vatanai New Blue Whales for the hot weather, both are thin and soft, yet supportive.

I also have a Didymos Natty Hemp Indio that is medium thick but I don't find hemp to be too warm in the summer.

I think you asked about sizes too, I typically recommend starting with a size 6, or a 4.6 meter. You can do lots of different carries with that size.

    Hope that helps!

  • I don't have a diamond weave gira, never even tried them (yet!) but overall my giras are too blankety for warm weather.  I love my linens - I have a great Didy Agave that really is one of my favorite wraps, it's not super supportive as baby gets bigger (like 25 pounds or more) but DD was and is a pretty petite toddler so we've been okay with using it in single layer carries (which to me is key to keeping cool).  I had a Vatanai Maruyama that I loved - very airy, but not supportive at about 20 pounds in single layer carries.  Another option is to get whatever wrap you like and are drawn to but in a shorty/rebozo size so you can wear it on one shoulder (ring sling style).  May not be what you're looking for, and not particularly versatile in the long run, but an option and usually a cheap(er) way to try out a woven.

  • I have a diamond weave gira (snow rainbow) and yea, it's like a blanket in hot weather! Not to mention, giras aren't great for older babies since they aren't as supportive as others.

My didymos is by far the most supportive and comfortable. I have a size 4 and 6 and love them.  Didy waves is also one of the most recommended for warmer weather.

I also own Dolcino, Vat and BB Slen and while each is pretty to look at, I find that I'm reaching for my didy the most.
