3rd Trimester

mild contractions+ walking= labor?

I've been having mild contractions since June 29th. This past sunday i went to the hospital and they said they were BH but I was 2cm, 80% effaced, and -2 and labor would probably start this week. Then tuesday at my dr appointment he said any day now and I most likely would not make it to my next appointment, next tuesday. I also lost my plug on tuesday.

I've been getting a lot of advice to walk as much as possible and it will start labor contractions so i've been walking like a mad woman! Anyone know if walking really helps or am i just preoccupying myself?

  • Many sites say that walking helps. I would try sex if I were you.  I have also read that try something that will relax you and keep your mind of of labor for a while. Putting your mind at ease can help your body get ready.  Good luck!

  • They say lots of walking, sex, and spicy foods can help but then plenty of people do those things and nothing happens.  The baby will come when he/she is ready.  At only 37 weeks, you really could have a couple weeks more to go.  Some people are dilated at a 2 or 3 for weeks.  And BH contractions are super normal, it's your body practicing and getting ready.  If I were you, I would just start practicing patience and going about your normal days.

This.  I walk every single day (and not just a stroll, I push myself the best I can) and no baby...I'm also dilated, effaced, -2 stations blah blah blah blah blah.

  • Walking can sort of "keep" you in labor b/c it puts the baby's pressure vertically on your cervix, so it's more the baby position on the cervix that helps.  I doubt it would really put you in labor if your body isn't ready.

Two boys already - ages 5 and 3...

  • I'm 37 weeks 3 days and when I seen dr last Friday, I was dilated to 3 cm....he didn't tell me the effacement though. He thought I would go into labor over the weekend.

Well, I've had really hard contractions about 3-5 min apart for an hour on 2 different incidences and they just stopped!! Angry

I've been walking like crazy, tried sex, and still no luck whatsoever!!  So, we just have to hang in there and know baby will come when baby wants to come and not a minute sooner! lol

    Keep your head up!! Yes
