XP: Diet

As if dealing with IF isn't enough, I've officially gained 20lbs during my IF journey and I'm really down about it. I gained 10lbs just with IVF #1 and the other 10 I gained in the year and a half leading up to it. I'm afraid of gaining more with IVF #2 coming up in August. Of course, if I end up pregnant, it will be worth it but I still want to be as healthy as possible for me and my future baby/ies. I've completely cut out caffeine and wine in the last month and have been running at least 3 times a week. Anyone have any good, healthy diet tips to help me shed a few lbs before I start stims mid-August? What are some examples of what you eat in a couple of days time?

  • Try logging your food and exercise on a website like www.caloriecount.about.com or www.myfitnesspal.com and you will learn what you are doing wrong and right. I prefer the first website as it helps with nutrition, not just weight loss.

  • I lost the 13lbs IF gave me before I cycled for DE. I did p90x and followed the p90x diet. My fitness pal ap was my best friend. I really think it is all about diet. For the first half of the diet I made sure that my protein intake was at 50%, carbs at 30%, and fats at 20%. I stuck to 1300-1500 cals a day. I did not eat the calories that i burnt working out. I think the diet had to do more with the weight loss rather than the intense work outs. I think if you run like planned and stick to the above, weight will fall off. The 50, 30, 20% is key! To get all that protein in you will have to supplement your intake with protein shakes and protein bars. GL! You can do it. Plus if you do it now, there will be less for you to lose after you get KU.

  • I used both of the sites that Roxie mentioned when I started paying closer attention to the tipping scale!  It really helped me understand the good, the bad, and the ugly of food and what it takes to burn off the intake.  Now, I stock the fridge with fruits, veggies, chicken, and fish...and I always have my gluten free brown rice crackers in "my back pocket" when the carb crazies creep in. All easier said than done.  I can't tell you how many times I have" fallen off the wagon", but attempting moderation and good daily habits are key for me.  Good luck!

  • I loved myfitnesspal. I haven't been on it lately due to cycling, but it helped keep me so accountable. Sometimes I didn't want to eat something only because I didn't want to put it in the app, so it kept me accountable.

  • Eat healthy balanced meals.  Focus on more fresh veggies and fruits for snacks.  Cut out packaged foods if you eat those kind of things.  Whole grains (brown rice, sweet potatoes, etc.)  For dinners try a lean piece of meat, steamed veggie and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers on the side.  I cut out gluten, dairy and red meat and lost 12 lbs in 3-4 weeks.

Its hard to lose weight as it is but harder when dealing with IF.  My weight has fluctuated so much over the last 4 years.   Good luck!

After 4.5 years our miracle IVF baby is here!

I do weight training about 3 times per week. It's really helped to tone up, build more muscle, which in turn will help burn more calories. As far as diet, I try to fill my plate with fruits, veggies, and lean meats/fish.  I snack on dried veggie chips or banana chips or fruit. I don't eat much processed food or alot of carbs. I drink mostly water and wine (yeah... can't seem to give that up!) I splurge every now and then, but find that the less I do it, the less I want to do it. Good luck!! :)

I love love love MyFitnessPal. I have the phone app on my Android and it is the best thing ever. It has really made me more mindful of the calories I eat everyday. It has a nifty scanner for scanning food labels and it brings you instantly to the nutrition facts for the food. It also has a super comprehensive search database including most chain restaurants. It's so much easier than tracking the old fashioned way (like WW). Love it!!  GL!!

    ~~ My IF Blog ~~

  • This cycle was my best in terms of longevity, even though I ultimately lost the baby.  The one thing I changed this time around was I cut out most foods with preservatives.  We have a Trader Joe's within walking distance from my house, and I made that my primary grocery store.  For awhile I was doing a semi-Paleo diet too, which is pretty good for weight loss...supposedly.  I don't think my cheat days helped me lose weight-LOL!

  • keep a bag of baby carrots around and snack on those rather than chips.  I started playing squash and got rid of about 5lbs of IVF weight
