Actually the character was James T Kirk, played by William Shatner.

Well DH thinks it's too in your face, so he suggested William Patrick as well, so it would be more subtle.

I knew the geek connection with the Kirk part but I didn't know anything about William until I read the other comments. So...it seems fine with me, who isn't so much into that specific geeky stuff. :]

I didn't know either of them. The only thing that came to mind for me was Kirk Cameron. Since they're both legit names, I think it's fine.
