Baby Names

What names do you see all the time on here?

but thus far are not very high on the SSA list?  Of course that it could all be different next May.  Obviously this board is not a good representation for the popularity of a name, and that's not what I'm getting at.  I just think there are certain names that stick out to me so that when I see them I think "Another one?!"  I bet there are plenty that I miss, or that others might feel aren't suggested as frequently.  However, I think we all know there are some board favorites.

I feel like I see Keira on here all the time, but I'm not sure where it is on the SSA list (not very high, I don't think?). Same with Cora and Lyla (sp?).

  • Wyatt and Mae. Not bad names, just probably too country for the area I live in and that's why I see them here all the time.

  • I agree with all the names above--Keira, Isla and Layla seem to show up here a lot. I also seem to see Emilia and Elise more often than what the actual usage is. Carys used to be a huge board favorite, but haven't see it as much lately

For boy names, Maddox seems to come up more than it's used IRL.

I see a lot of my favorites on here, but rarely in real life. Several of these are on my short list, though.

I've yet to meet an August, Jude, Rhys, Finn, Graham, Milo, Isla, Nora/Norah, Maeve, Maren, Piper, or Ruby under the age of 5. The exception would be Bumpies who I'm friends with on FB.

  • Since I like Margaret/Maggie so much it certainly stands out when I see it in a thread.  I think it's fairly more popular on here than on the SSA list.  Perhaps it's not a name chosen all the time but it's on a lot of people's lists.  The same goes for Josephine.

    Here are some other ones:

Names I see trending on here but don't understand the appeal:

Harper, Ruby, Stella, Gretchen, Mabel, Eliot, Everett,

Names I see trending on here and am getting sick of but used to like:

Isla, Ivy, Elise, Jude/Judah, Oliver, Jack, Asher,  Aurora

Names I see trending on here but believe to be classics and timelessly popular:

Catherine/Katherine, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Alice, Henry, William,

Names I see trending on here but love anyway:

Margaret, Josephine, Charlotte, Penelope, Fiona, Amelia, Iris, Hugh, Owen, Eli (Elijah), Louisa, Jane, Caroline, Ainsley, Nora, Hazel, Harriet, Matilda, Mae,

I'm obviously biased towards girl names!

ETA:  Oh, and as for kids IRL, almost all of them are either on par for popularity (top 10 name) or very different.

Really?  That was my name if our LO was a girl and I don't remember seeing it much at all.

I forgot about this one!  It seems like it's on a lot of people's lists lately.  Usually with a question on how to spell it/pronounce it.

You ladies caught a lot that I forgot about!  I can't believe I forgot about Carys, Cora, Layla, Lilah and Violet!

It is frequently suggested.  I love the name but we have a friend named Kiera (pronounced the same as Keira) and DH said no to names that are those of our close friends...that and exes.

And when Kourtney K named her DD Penelope, dozens of posters were crushed that that was the name they had chosen and now it was gong to be SUPER popular. 1) I have never met a Penelope in my life, and 2) If all of you were really planning on naming your DDs that, I guess it was going to be super popular anyway.

I see this suggested all the time on here, but have yet to see it IRL.  I honestly don't see the appeal.

  • OK, I'm so surprised how many people mentioned Nora!!! Lately this has been my fave girl name (although DH is not on board.... yet) and I don't really feel like I see it all that much on the board.  Apparently I'm a space cadet.

Edited to add: Violet, Scarlet, Harper, Isla, Eleanor, and Ivy are all names I see all the time here but don't know anyone with the name IRL.

  • I'm surprised by a lot of the names on here that were mentioned. I actually know little Nora's, Cora's, Ivy's, Piper's, Ruby's, Graham's, Miles', and Olivers'. Maybe my friends are just good namers. (For the record, the plural form of all those names is really throwing me for a loop.)

On the contrary I feel like anytime I start liking a name, I see it on here all the time, probably because I just notice it more. (Like when you get a new car and them suddenly you see it everywhere.)

I don't know any children named:

    Audrey

    Fiona

    Isla

    Camille

    Jude

    Rhett

  • FYI, Declan is a very common name in Ireland.  So it's a "real" but unique name, which is why it's becoming popular, I'd imagine.
  • Cora. On here a lot lately. Really NMS but "Cora's" is a huge national breakfast joint here. So that's what I associate it with.
