stretch marks

Ok ladies I tried looking in older posts but I'm sorry for a repeat- I just found that what was scracthing from my new dress I now have a small spot of marks...I want opinions I have been using palmers.

But what about Mederma or Bio-Oil I need votes and I will be going to get some shortly at my lunch hour... it's not on the front of my tummy it's on the side...darn it!

Re: stretch marks

  • No amount of cream, oil, home remedy, or anything of the like is going to prevent stretch marks.  For some they happen, for others they don't.  The best thing they do help with the itching.  Your best bet is to stay plenty hydrated and try not to gain weight too quickly.  Other than that, you'll just have to come to terms with your battle scars.

  • I have been using olive oil twice a day since I was 8 weeks, and just noticed this week 3 marks already. There is nothing you can do to stop it. But don't scratch is what I am told. I have a baby brush I use, and it does the trick
  • Don't hate me ladies lol but I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get stretchmarks. I used Bio-Oil for the itching though, so that will be my vote :)

  • I hate to say it, but I used all sorts of those creams daily with DD1 and my stomach, sides and tops of my thighs all still looked like they belonged on a zebra or tiger by the end of my pregnancy. With this baby I've just been using lotion (with no alcohol) to stay hydrated to prevent itching. But I feel like for the money I spent on all that other stuff, it was such a waste. Best of luck to you though, I know some girls that didn't use anything and don't have a single stretch mark to speak of. It just depends on the person.

  • I would definitely avoid scratching at all costs. I heard that it just increases the rate at which the skin stretches. Think about it....the stretch marks kinda resemble scratch marks! Obviously this is not the only thing that causes stretch marks but heck if it helps in any way with avoiding stretch marks I'm all for it!

P.S.- I use 'cocoa butter for stretchmarks' lotion.

  • I use sweet almond oil all over my belly, sides, and boobs.
  • Sad thing is I was never scratching my tummy, I wore this summer dress the one size fits all and the seam was on that side...yeah I had to put tape on it to get the fabric to leave me alone...dang dress. it's pretty much on the far side almost my back so it's annoying it happened there, but at least it's not on my front side

  • As PPs said, nothing will prevent stretchmarks, so just do what you can to keep comfortable.  You don't have to scratch to get a mark, it's just something that can happen as the skin stretches.  Although a stretchmark may be pretty visible when it first appears, it may fade over time.  I have older stretchmarks from weight gain that are very pale and pretty much blend in with my skin tone.  My pregnancy stretchmarks are red/pink for now, but I expect over time they'll fade a bit lighter, too.

    This.  It's genetic.
