Wine is not dairy free :( (XP on BMB)

WTF?! So for you moms avoiding milk proteins watch out! I have been reading on the website godairyfree.com (as a recomendation from another MSPI mom) and it mentioned that beer and wine is sometimes made using a non-vegan process. I checked out the website barnivore.com to check out the wines I usually drink and look what I found out about Woodbridge wines:

Company email (Sept 13 2011):

"One of our standard fining agents contains Micronized potassium casseinate [casein is milk protein], food grade gelatin, egg albumin and other food grade components."

Ahhhhhhh!!!!! Milk is everywhere :(

Wow, that is crazy.  It is so hard to avoid dairy.  I was surprised to find it in Campbell's chicken noodle soup and Jimmy John's salt and vinegar potato chips.  What the heck?  Why do we need milk in these things?

  • It might just be time to find a new favorite wine.

I did not know wine wasn't vegan. I just assumed grapes! Shows how much I know.

  • I know, so depressing! I think I will try and contact the company myself to be sure.

ETA: Not at you, just at our situation. 8 months of this can really start to push you over the edge. Only 4 more months... hopefully.

  • THis post just blew me away.  I had no idea... Guess I better further delay my return to the bottle!  LOL!
  • I have emailed Robert Mondavi wines to try and clarify for that winery, but I just found out that the red wines (Merlot, Cab, and Pinot Noir) from Yellow Tail are vegan friendly! They are good and easy to find in most grocery stores. Unfortunately, the whites are not. Another Bumpie from the April board suggested Yellow Tail and I just double checked their website. Yay!
