I was told at my 20 week a/s that I was on the high end of normal for the volume of amniotic fluid in one of the pockets measured. The doctor (who is not my regular doctor) seemed somewhat concerned and immediately suggested a low carb diet and moving up my GD test. Basically, because high volume of amniotic fluid could be indicative of GD.
Has anyone had experience with high volume of amniotic fluid? Not that is actually considered high yet, but still there was the concern. FTR, I'm on the lower end of normal for my weight and my weight gain during pregnancy has been normal. But I suppose that being a normal weight doesn't necessarily mean avoiding GD. Anyways, I'm just nervous about it.
Re: large volume of amniotic fluid at 20 weeks might be GD?
Oh yeah, I am definitely doing it. Hopefully I will have some answers soon. Good to know about your experience though.
i dont know, what is afi?
Your fluid level. They said it was high. Did they give you a number? 5-25 is normal. Mine is currently 13.8. When I was pregnant with DD, I was above 40 by the time I delivered her.
My AFI was 34. I didn't have any major complications or GD. I was told by my OB if my water would happen to break at home I needed to get to the hospital asap (I beleive there's a higher risk of prolapsed cord).
I did end up having maternal hypertension which can be caused by a high AFI. I ended up being induced one week early because of my high blood pressure. Becuase I had so much fluid, it took me longer to dilate because the baby's head wasn't putting pressure on my cervix because he could "float around."
I think it was 5.7. I was only 20 weeks though. He said the numbers are usually between 3-8 (I think?) at this point in pregnancy.
Ah ok. Honestly, from a non-doctor but someone who has had a lot of AFI checks, 5.7 sound just fine. Great, actually.
ETA: Actually, was 5.7 one of the fluid pockets or was 5.7 the final / total AFI?
