SAMMICHES

There is almost as much sammich talk on the board today as there is talk about crazy bitches. I like that.

So, in honor of all the sandwich talk (and all you crazy bitches)..

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SANDWICH???

*please use great detail in describing. I'm pregnant, I like hearing about other people's food*

Re: SAMMICHES

  • I mentioned one of them in the other thread:

    1.  PB, banana, and fritos

    2.  Grilled tomato, mozzarella and basil

  • Honey-smoked turkey with cheese and mayo. And a side of plain Lay's. nomnomnom

    Turkey.

There is no detail in this. I'm going to need you to put in a little more effort.

What kind of bread? Toppings? Hot or cold?

  • French bread toasted with seedless raspberry jam, thin sliced ripe pear and melted brie.
  • I love the Beach Club from Jimmy Johns. Turkey, mayo, avacado, provolone, tomato and asparagus. D-E-lightful.

    #1 has me intrigued...

I was on board until the fritos. I'm pretty down for trying new things though. I just might eat that.

    Mine is a turkey sandwich:

Boar's Head Oven Gold Turkey Breast (thinly sliced)

    Kaiser Roll

    Muenster cheese

    Mayo, tomato, lettuce

    Alfalfa sprouts

**I ask for extra mayo in the deli**

  • The salty of the fritos helps offset the sweet of the PB and Banana.  And if you use creamy PB then the fritos make the sandwich crunchy.

Don't knock it 'til you try it!

BLT on sourdough toast, with mayo (inside the sandwich WHERE IT BELONGS).

    Heavy on the B.

I have had a fried-green tomato BLT which sounded awesome in theory, but in execution might have been too much of a good thing.

The bolded, but add avocado.  Instead of plain mayo, add garlic aioli.  To. Die. For.
  • I'm judging all you turkey sandwich eaters.

  • There's a deli near my office that fresh roasts meat every day. I like to get roasted turkey, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a little mayo on toasted sourdough bread. It's yummy.

  • Tomato wrap, romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, grilled chicken, feta cheese and greek dressing.  I also love a good grilled cheese and bacon.  But my favorite is the less than healthy awesome sandwich I make at  home.  Bulkie roll, deli buffalo chicken, tomato, cheddar, bacon and avocado - grilled.

  • Nothing too fancy, just turkey, bacon (lots), dijion mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato on french bread.  I also love it with baked potato soup and a glass of strawberry lemonade.

    Monte Cristo
Yup, this. More specifically, a Monte Cristo from Magnolia's Cafe in Austin, TX.

  • I make a nice buffalo chicken grilled cheese - pick apart a rotisserie chicken, chop it up, throw it in a pan with some (ie, a lot of) butter, crushed garlic and Texas Pete or Frank's wing sauce. Get it all nice and buffaloed, then proceed with making a grilled cheese as usual (using sharp cheddar), but put some awesome chicken on there before you close it up.

My favorite sandwich to buy is either a Jimmy John's Italian Night Club or Beach Club.

Turkey is superior to all other deli meats.

    Fact.

    You guys really love sandwiches.

If I had to choose one food to forever live off of, I would choose my favorite sandwich. I could eat one three meals a day, everyday.

    I have simple taste buds.

On what planet does Jimmy John's have asparagus?

  • Pepper turkey with tomato, onion, peppers, pickles, and colby jack cheese. The bread just depends on what we have around the house, but my favorite is fresh italian. nom nom nom.

  • Tomato fresh from the garden, Dukes mayo, and salt & pepper.  CAN'T BEAT IT.

Also, peanut butter, banana, and Dukes.  Any other mayo, and that combo is horrendous, but with Dukes, it's heaven.

This was my lunch today! Though my tomatoes were store bought and not garden fresh as I have been too lazy to actually plant anything this year.

I put Duke's on both sides of my bread. I like to make sure it is moist.

ETA: by both sides of my bread I mean each inside slice. Thought I should calrify before someone thinks I put mayo on the outside of my sangy. Yuck.

That alone ups the level of even the shittiest of sandwiches.  I eat them like an apple, right from the garden.

Sh!t, I meant sprouts. Asparagus doesn't sound bad now that I think about it. Hmm...
  • I don't know if this is considered a sandwich or a sub, but it is fabulous.

I get a hot Ham & Cheese sandwich from a pizza place, and have them add pizza sauce. That's it. But it MUST BE HOT.

Ham, cheese, pizza sauce. It's really all you need in life.

  • Depeneds on my mood

    1) PB, pickles, mayo on white bread.

    2) Club sandwich from the patate-frite down the street with dirty fries on the side.

    3) BLT with avocado on grainy bread, lettuce and bacon must be CRISPY, tomatoes thick cut and don't hold back on the mayo...oh and fresh cracked pepper.

Why has no one mentioned the most perfect sandwich of all time? It's the Reuben of course!

The best one in the world is at the Dundee Dell in Omaha. It has all my favorite things:
    Marble bread
    Lots of meat
tangy sauerkraut (actually, I only eat this on reubens. Otherwise, it is gross.)
    Melty cheese
Special sauce that is specialer than all other sauces.

And they serve it with pickles and chips, like you're supposed to. Who doesn't like some pickle after a meal?

Also, it is about a million calories and gives you chest pains after you eat it. But it is SO worth it!

    ::mumbles goody two shoes::

The amount of mayo I put on my sandwiches makes them far from healthy. Mine are nothing short of heart attack worthy.

    What are dirty fries?

  • Monte Cristo. Normally done layered as:

    1. slice of bread
    2. thick layer of deli turkey
    3. Swiss or provolone cheese
    4. bread slice
    5. thick layer of ham
    6. cheddar or American
    7. bread slice

Then cut in half, batter dipped, and fried. Then dusted with confectioners sugar, and served with raspberry preserves.

I don't like the smell of ham, especially warm ham, so I prefer turkey on all of it. Raspberry preserves can be replaced with mixed berry preserves, but they can never be replaced with jelly. That's gross.

My mom also makes hobo donuts. Very fatty and carby so very rarely.

Make a sandwich with two slices of bread and whatever jam/jelly you want. PB&J is awesome. Cut into quarters. Dip in monte cristo batter and deep fry. Set on paper towels to remove as much oil as possible. Dust with confectioners sugar, serve warm.
