Didn't want to hijack the startle reflex post

So, DH has a theory about the startle reflex. It is said that it disappears around 4-6 months, but he has another take on it. He believes that babies learn to harness it. His rationale is that even as adults we experience a startle-like reflex. You know what I am talking about. It happens occasionally just as you fall asleep and you feel like you are falling and it startles you a bit.

Thoughts?

  • Yeah, I get that sometimes at night.  Does your DH mean by harnessing the startle reflex, that the babies figure out they can royally piss us off by waking their damn selves up all the time? ;)

  • I used to do that when I started to fall asleep at my desk at school everytime. I bet he is right though.

He means we as humans learn how to control it so that it doesn't happen as easily or as often.   Lol at them pissing us off though.
