do you let your babies sleep with a security blanket? our boys are 6 months old and for naps i give them a little blanket ( kind with a litle stuffed animal head at the top) it really does help them go to sleep or sooth themselves back to sleep. i am nervous about leaving it their crib at night though cause they hold it right to their face.. is that bad? they of course can move themselves but i know they recommend nothing in the crib and i don't know how long that lasts. i take it out when they fall asleep but i think it would help if they had it when they wake up in the night?

If they initially fall asleep with a security blanket then yes, I would think it would be a comfort to them when the wake up.
DD has had a blanket in her crib since she was a month or two old, earlier if you count her swaddle blanket (we never used sacs because she hated them). Sometimes it's her cotton waffle-weave style one and sometimes it's a knitted one a great aunt made for her. She also has always slept with her glo-seahorse. The past couple months she has become attached to a stuffed giraffe that my dad gave her, so she snuggles that and it generally goes close to her face. At our 6 month app our pedi says that she is old enough to turn her head away if she has starts heaving problems breathing.
Use your judgement, but I wouldn't be too worried about it.
