I'm 32 weeks pregnant with our first and the whole 3rd trimester I've had problems with my hands falling asleep and going numb. It's getting worse though. It use to be just at night but now it's throughout the day and accompanied by joint pain in my hands and fingers. Even wearing wrist braces at night doesn't help. Is this normal?
Re: Numbness and tingling in hands?
I have this too. My doctor says it is normal (as normal as any other pregnancy symptom). He said swelling presses on the nerves and this is what causes the numbness/tingling. It is essentially the same as carpal tunnel syndrome (and will be worse if you work in a job where carpal tunnel may already be an issue). When it first started for me it was only sporadic and would go away, now unfortunately it is pretty constant. My fine motor skills have taken a nosedive.
ETA: If you looked at my wrists and fingers they don't look swollen. My rings don't fit so obviously they are, but I guess it doesn't take much swelling to cause this issue.
