Trying to Get Pregnant

O pain only on one side?

Since having DS, I get stop me in my tracks O pain every month, but only on my left side. Like, it seriously feels like I'm being stabbed. Though I have no way to prove it, I am assuming I'm ovulating from both ovaries, but can you still only get pain on one side? I tried Googling it, but only came up with situations where pain was felt every other month or alternating side to side.

Anyone experience this?

Re: O pain only on one side?

  • I don't really know the answer to your question, but since stopping BCPs in dec, I experience pain on both side every cycle right around O time. It's usually just a twinge/ache, but sometimes it's more intense. I assume it's normal.

  • I never noticed O pain after my DD. But I've had 3 cycles since my MC in April, and felt O pain only on my left side since then.

I don't have an answer to why, but at least now you know you aren't alone:)

  • I have noticeable O pain and it is always on the right side. This cycle is actually my first cycle I have ever experienced O pain on my left side.  I brought it up to my RE a couple months ago and he said not to worry.

Ovulation pain is usually located on one side, on whichever ovary is releasing an egg at that time.

But that would mean I'm only ovulating on the left since DS was born. I feel like that's not normal. :-/

Someone else might be able to confirm but I feel like I've seen someone here say there's such a thing as a dominant ovary.

Interesting. FWIW, when I was pregnant, I only felt round ligament pain and sciatic pain on my left side too. Maybe my right side is just lazy.

I'll have to bring it up when I go for my annual. Thanks ladies. :-)

    Yes

Yes, it's quite normal to ovulate more frequently from one ovary over the other.  It's a misconception that you alternate ovaries each month.

Every monitored cycle I had, my dominant follicles were always on the my left.

The more I learn through TTC, the more I realize my high school health classes were a lie. Haha!

    Thanks, Linds. :-)

I'm like this too. (Except on the right!) I've only O'd on the left twice since DD was born. Before DD, I would always feel O pain on my left side, so I guess it switched it up somehow? My RE told me as well that alot of women will mostly ovulate on one side, and that unless you have a blocked tube on that side, it's not going to affect anything. Of course, I'm a bit of a freak show and was all concerned that I would get old eggs on that side or go into menopause early or something because of that, but she reassured me that wouldn't happen. (Just in case you were wondering too!)

IVF #2 03/15 - Long protocol with Suprefact, Gonal-F, and possibly Luveris, adding in PICSI

  • My understanding is that both ovaries develop follicles, which could cause dull pains on both sides, and then it's fairly random as to which ovary develops the dominant follicle and releases the egg (which would cause the more stabbing O pain), so I think it's within normal to have pain on the side that you don't O on.

  • I have quite a bit of pain when I ovulate and while mine has happened on both sides, it happens much more frequently on my left.  I'm glad I have it because I feel like it reaffirms all of my charting, etc. but at the same time, it kind of takes the fun out of sex when we're TTC.  Tongue Tied

You aren't crazy hun.  I get O pain only on my right side, lower back. I don't know why, I did tell my dr about it when I was in seeing her and she didn't say much about it.  She just told me to take tylenol if the pain was too bad.
