squash and zucchini ?

we have a bunch of squash and zucchini about to be big enough to pull, but i'm reading on wholesomebabyfood.com that they shouldn't have it til 8+ months because of the skin. for those of you who have fed it, do you just peel and seed it? i see several have fed it, but i'm not sure if it was peeled or not. given our past belly issues, i'm hesitant to feed it without peeling, but i'm not sure that that solves all of the concerns about digestion.

Re: squash and zucchini ?

  • Summer squash is one of my daughter's favorites. I read the same stuff on wholesomebabyfood, so I just peeled it. She had no issues.

  • Yes I've fed him squash. Pur?ed and just mashed. If you do a butternut you can cut it in half, scrape the seeds out, and roast it in a pan with about an inch of water. The squash can be spooned out of the skins very easily. If you do just a plain yellow squash or yellow zucchini you peel those too but they don't need to be seeded because the seeds are very soft after cooking. My DS loves squash. Roasting it brings out the flavor :) Yum. We love it too!

  • I peel but leave the seeds in.

I just peel the zucchini and then cook it in french fries-sized strips. Sometimes I grill it, too. I usually add some pepper, Alex seems to love it :-)

  • I have pureed both and have left the skins on. Harry loves it! He is 8 months now (!!!!) but we started giving it to him probably before he was even 6 months old.

  • We did both squash and zucchini with the skin and the seeds. I really didn't even think about peeling or seeding them, to be honest. It didn't seem to bother her.

  • We are just now trying the yellow squash.  For the zucchini DS was 6 months and I left the skins on and the seeds in.  I know for Butternut you have to cut it length wise and remove the seeds (since they are concentrated at the bottom).  So far there has not been a problem with leaving the skins on the squash and zucchini.  DS eats it fine.  I steam mine and through it in a high power glass blender with some BM and DS will eat it up.
