Smiling?

When did your LO start? Does LO do it all the time now?

 LO started at 7 weeks but they are hard to come by.  He smiles more at his mobile then me or DH, but it's still no more than once or twice a day.  He will be 2 months on Sunday.  Should I be worried?  I can't help but think about autism......   But he makes great eye contact.

 Am I over reacting?

yes normal....she started around 5-6 weeks, but it was very random...now at almost 12 weeks, she smiles when I sing to her, smile at her, when she hears my voice....it's pretty constant...and is smiling at specific smile induced moments

Connor has been giving us sleepy smiles for a couple weeks but I got my first genuine smile on the Forth, twice!  So now I try to make him smile but it's very inconsistent.  I think as long as your getting some by 2 months, pedi's don't worry too much about neurological issues.  

And, FYI, autism doesn't usually become apparently until preschool/school age.  There's more to it then eye contact.  But since it's characterized by social behavior, you have to wait until LO is more capable of demonstrating social development.  Don't worry yourself about it now!

DD started reaction smiling around 5 weeks. And since then everyday she more and more smiles at things. Usually all it takes is me talking to her and she really gets going. She really loves to coo and 'talk' at the same time, we have some very entertaining conversations!

Sleepy smiles since birth.  Random smiles when awake at 5 weeks, but not reacting to me.  Reaction smiles at 6 weeks.  Now he smiles a lot when I change his diaper, which is funny because the first 2.5 weeks of his life he SCREAMED BLOODY MURDER when we changed his diaper!

Every baby is different though.  My friend's baby didn't start smiling till 8 weeks.  He was also premature, not sure if that had something to do with it.

No you should not worry about Autism. Autism experts say that no baby can be said to show signs of autism before 6 months I believe. This is why you have people saying, oh my baby was smiling and cooing before he received his vaccinations and then he stopped, thus vaccinations cause autism. It's not related, autism or not babies will be the same at this stage.

Very normal.  My LO started round 6 weeks smiling socially (at toys and us).  It has increased a lot over the past couple weeks.  He is 9 weeks now.

At 9 weeks my LO started to smile when anyone would look at him up close and smile and say hiiii. (at first i thought it was because he recognized mine and my husbands voices, but he'll do it to anyone, lol)

I got a few at 4 weeks... Now she is 7 weeks and we get very direct smiles... Mostly after she had eaten or just woken up from a nap.

Babies develop at different times... I believe some smiles are good (which you have) plus you have great eye contact! I think he is doing great mama.
