RE appointment update

Just came back from my RE appointment, it went well.  I brought along all my reports with me, my doctor basically said that my husband and I have good results.  So she suggested to do some basic treatments, i.e., IUI.

Since my period is due tomorrow, I may not have enough time to do it this cycle (need to schedule an appointment to sign the consent forms, etc).  She suggested that I can do a clomid cycle with intercourse.  And, move on IUI next cycle.  I think it's a good plan. 

I guess I feel better to know the next step.

That's great! Congrats.  And that's great news that you both have good results.

Even though it may be too late to do an IUI, I bet you'd feel super rushed so it may be a little less stressful to start with Clomid only.  And that's great that you can start right away. 

How does it work, does she write you a prescription and then you come in for monitoring, etc?   I think you start taking Clomid on day 3 or 5, right?

I need to go in between day 2 and 4 and they will need to take my blood and ultrasound and then prescribe Clomid if nothing is abnormal.  Yes, I think you are right, I think you start day 3, I will double check. There was a lot of paperwork they gave me, I am just exhausted right now to read. 

Yes, as much as I want IUI right away, just too rush.  You never know people have sucess just use Clomid without IUI.  Hopefually I am the lucky one.

I know that I felt better once we had a plan.  In the beginning we also started off with trying Clomid without IUI.  That didn't work for us but it might for you.  It might be all that you need.  I will be starting my Clomid today (cycle day 3) with a third IUI this month.  Good luck to you!

When you take clomid without IUI, did they do day 2 blood work and ultrasound?  What are those for?  I should have asked them, but I was overwhelmed and forgot.

They need to check your baseline before you start the meds.  You should be monitored again ~CD12 to check your response...you could have to repeat the monitoring again if your follicles aren't mature yet.

 I had an u/s and bw to check LH, estradiol and progesterone at every appt.

I had the IUI without Clomid in January and I don't remember what labs I had drawn at the time.  That is something I have learned, keep a record of everything...there are so many details that can be forgotten (I was also overwhelmed).  They did the first US after we found that the Clomid didn't work to see if I had responded to it.  That is when they found my cyst and endo.

If you have questions, you should be able to call the office and see if there is a nurse who you can talk to.  It seems as if different doctors have their own protocols as to what should be done first and when and why (like labs, US, procedures etc).
