CIO for naps?

Has anyone done CIO just for naps? My DS is a great sleeper at night. He either falls asleep while nursing, or if he wakes up after he eats I can lay him down drowsy and he'll fall asleep. He used to be bad and fight sleep like it was the plague, but now he's great at night. However, he still fights his naps like they are the plague, so I've started doing CIO this past week. It's been harder because we're at my parents and not at home, but today we've been at my parents all day so far (not on the go) and I have let him CIO twice for naps. The first nap he cried for 20 minutes and right now he cried for 14. This is good, right? Has anyone done this for naps only and not had it affect anything at night? I'm new to all this, and it sucks to hear him cry, but I know it's for the best because he needs sleep and just gets worse and worse fighting it.

Re: CIO for naps?

  • We do. I've found my DD needs to "release" before bed. Meaning no matter if I hold her or not she cries/whines for about 10 mins before falling fast asleep. So she'll do the same now when I put her down for a nap and like clockwork is out after 10 mins. HTH

  • We do, my DS sounds just like yours. He has been putting himself to sleep at night for a while, but would fuss about naps. So now every two hours after he wakes up in the morning or from his last nap, I change his diaper, cuddle him a little, kiss him and lay him in his crib. We've been doing this for about 2 weeks and just now today he has gone down for 2 naps with no fussing or crying. Normally, he averages about 2-5 minutes of fussing and then conks out.

  • Sometimes I let my dude cry for a few minutes when he's tired and nothing I can do can stop him. After a few minutes he calms when I pick him back up. Then off to dreamland he goes.
